The Perfect Job!!
Submitted by: Brandy B.
Raleigh, NCI am a 26 year old positive thinker in the process of having everything I want!!
Last year in December I was laid off from a temporary position with a great company. Unfortunately I had to start receiving unemployment benefits.
I am a strong believer in The Secret and a few months before I was laid off is when I started to read and apply The Secret in my life. So I decided to add another goal to my visualization document (I keep a document saved on my laptop with everything I want typed out). Back in December under the Job/Employment section of my visualization docment I basically wrote in present tense, as if I already had the perfect job. I said that I have the best job ever, it pays between $14-$16/hour with great benefits, I get 3 weeks of vacation and sick time per year, I have friendly and supportive co-workers and supervisors, I only have to drive 15 minutes or less to get to work, I get recognition for doing a good job, and I enjoy learning about and doing my job.
I continued to focus on this goal and read it often. I applied for numerous jobs and was interviewed for multiple jobs, however most of them were located about 30 minutes away and the pay wasn’t what I wanted. So I had to keep my focus on what I wanted. In January, there was a position listed on Craigslist for a Communications Specialist with the State of North Carolina. I read the description and it sounded like the perfect job for me so I submitted my application and resume for the position.
About 2-3 weeks later, I received a phone call from an unknown number and they didn’t leave a message. I immediately thought it could be a job, so I called the number back and a Communications Representative answered the phone from North Carolina and I explained to her that someone had just called me from this number and I told her that I remembered applying for a position with them a few weeks ago and wanted to know if that was the reason why they called me. She placed me on hold to see if anyone had given me a call and unfortunately she just told me that I would be contacted if they wanted to set up an interview with me and that was the end of it.
However, about 10 minutes later I received another phone call from the same number and it was the Recruiter calling to schedule an interview with me for the very next morning. I went to the interview and it was great, I talked with the supervisor and the Director of Communications for about an hour and was informed that there were also internal candidates being considered for the position, which meant that my chances of getting the position were slim to none. The supervisor really liked me and told me to keep applying even if I didn’t get the position.
So I went home anxiously waiting to hear back from them. The following week I received a letter in the mail from them, informing me that I was no longer being considered for the position. So I just kept looking for job openings with the State of North Carolina and kept applying for other jobs. I even went to a staffing agency to see if they would be able to find a job for me. About a week or two after I received that letter in the mail, I received a phone call from the HR Coordinator with the State of North Carolina and he informed me that the Communications Representative position was actually still available and that they wanted to offer the position to me. I could’ve screamed into his ear when he told me that!! I was ecstatic!! He then informed me that in order to work for the state I would have to go through an extensive background check which normally take 3-4 weeks and they wouldn’t be able to begin the background check until I completed a drug test and went for fingerprinting.
So by the end of the week on Friday, I was able to complete the drug test and the fingerprinting and would have to wait 3-4 weeks to hear back from them. In the meantime, I interviewed with a staffing agency because I needed to start working immediately. However, the very next week, on Thursday, I received a call informing me that the background check came back good and I could start whenever I wanted to. It hadn’t even been a week!!!!! I was so excited! So I told them I wanted to start on that next Monday, which was March 12, 2012 and here I am! This is only my 4th day, but I already feel like this is the place for me! All of my coworkers and supervisors are nice and friendly, the pay is within the amount that I wanted to make, the benefits are excellent and I only have to pay for dental and vision because medical is included unless I want the higher option which is only $20/month. I also get 5 weeks of vacation time per year, I enjoy doing my job and learning more about it, and finally it is only 7 minutes from my home!!! I am SO happy and I have to keep telling myself that this is real!
So now I can put a checkmark next to my goal of having the perfect job and continue moving down my list! I strongly believe that if you state specifically what you want and believe it, then you’ll without a doubt receive it. I am a very grateful and positive person always seeking for ways to encourage others and spread my positivity! I will be back to post more stories, so keep an eye out!
All I can say is Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!
