Starting Small
Submitted by: Marianne Bryant
Inverness FLParent Liaison working with children with autism and their families as well as their teachers. I have a daughter with autism and decided when she was diagnosed at 3, to only focus on the positive. She has gone so far beyond what I could have ever imagined for her and is now looking ahead to college and becoming a sports writer. This was all before I read The Secret very recently.
I picked up The Secret at a library book sale. It looked so interesting because it was so positive. I just got my degree in psychology after 35 years of wanting to complete it, and in the process have realized how powerful the mind can be.
I began reading The Secret and began trying to change years of a certain way of thinking. I decided to start very small, like the person who would look for the cup of coffee, or the parking space. I decided, since I work in an office some of the time, to wear a new top that I was a bit nervous about wearing, and that I was going to get a compliment on it; that was it.
I was absolutely shocked when I walked into work, and had been there no more than one minute, and my boss, who is new (past four months) said Good morning and said “I really like your outfit, you look really nice.” I was shocked. I thanked her and in the course of two hours received THREE more compliments.
I am a visual thinker and always have been. Part of my job is to create visuals for autistic students, and I problem solve with the visuals. When I got to the section in the book on visualization, I immediately found a box, and am now in the process of making a blank check for the box. I also changed the balances on all my bank accounts to a much higher balance and took my one credit card and changed the balance due to $0. I also have written an e-book with a famous author in the autism world, who is internationally known and quite successful. It is in the form of an e-book. I receive a royalty check each month if the book is selling on her website. I have taken my royalty statements and changed the monthly sales to 500 a month. The book is going to be also sold in print form but I do not know when, it is all up to the other author who is the publisher and owns the company. She has said she wants to do it but has other projects in the works.
The e-book took 3 years. I am now envisioning the cover of the printed book and also envisioning myself on stage speaking to crowds of people who want autism information on visuals for their children. I will let you know how it goes, so far my vision of and attraction to only one compliment led to four so I am realizing a very strong power within.
Thank you for reading my beginning story to unlimited possibilities.
