The president and CEO of our small technology company read The Secret and felt passionate about how it could help the company. At a companywide meeting, the President laid out on the conference room table, multiple copies of The Secret book, the audio book and The Secret DVD allowing everyone to take one for themselves. I grabbed the audio book CDs because I was driving a lot at the time and I thought that it would be great to listen to in the car.

At that time, I knew I wanted to gain my MCSE certification and that a boot camp training session would help me fill in my knowledge gaps, keep my focused on the information and allow me to pass the tests quickly. I researched MCSE Boot Camps and found the best one for me but it cost over $5000 and was over 600 miles away. By my calculations, the cheapest I could take the class and cover my travel costs was $6000. I did not know where I would get $6000. After listening to The Secret, I felt strongly that now was the time to get my MCSE and I started to seriously look at how I could make it happen.

I went to my company and asked if they would reimburse me if I passed the tests and obtained my MCSE. The answer was no. I asked if I could do the training on company time and pay for it all by myself and again the answer was no. I had to use my own money and vacation time to attend my MCSE training.

The desire, my thoughts and a plan were lined up but I did not have the money. To this day I am not sure where the money came from, I even asked my wife. I think that some of it came from a tax refund but I do not know about the rest.

Using vacation time and my own money, I was able to attend the two week boot camp and obtain my MCSE certification. As soon as I added MCSE to my resume I was receiving about three calls a week from recruiters and I was being picky to find the right position that would best fit me. At the end, I had two companies offering me jobs and I worked that to my advantage to raise my initial salary $5,000 and start with an additional week of vacation. I had fulfilled my dream of obtaining my MCSE certification and finding a better job that appreciated me and my work.

Interestingly, after the president handed out The Secret, the most skilled employees left the company, me included. After my departure, the management made several changes for the worst, including two rounds of layoffs. The company was eventually sold to another company that ended up going under. The President was forced out of his own company that he had founded, by the shareholders. He is now working at a new startup that is doing well. Thank you!
