First Job That Exceeded Expectations
Submitted by: Daphne
SingaporeA recent graduate who yearns for a new lease of life and now wants to use The Secret to empower her life.
I graduated with a diploma from our local polytechnic in 2007. For two years, I did not get a full time permanent job like my peers. I did contract jobs in banks as I wanted to try for a place in our local universities and because financially it was a cheaper option for me. I am financially independent ever since completing my high school. However, my applications were unsuccessful. Undeterred, in 2009 I decided to pursue my accounting/finance degree with an Australian university in Singapore. I continued to take on contract job assignments for the two years while studying for my degree to finance my studies. I never had a full time job. Some people perceived me as a job hopper, I worked for a total of 7 different banks.
Then, finally, I graduated in August 2011. The time came for me to find myself a proper full time permanent job. I attended my convocation ceremony in Perth and stayed with my cousin who is living there. On my last day in Perth, we were chatting and she mentioned to me about The Secret and said how it helped her to land a job in Australia. She told me to find the book and read it when I’m back in Singapore. Curious, I went to our national library and made a reservation for the book. I read the book and even checked out the website and saw for myself, the many inspirational stories.
I have been job hunting for 2 months. My last contract job assignment ended in mid July just before my graduation. I needed a job soon as I have to cope with my education loan repayment and my own living expenses. Time passed and I do not have much luck. Many recruitment agencies called but only to offer me contract positions. Finally, a permanent offer came through to me 3 weeks ago but I wasn’t very keen. The offer was not at all attractive. I felt that I could have got something much better.
A few days before the offer, I sent my application for a job with a global mining company. I had to let the company know of my decision by mid week. I rejected the first offer. The following day, I received a call from the mining company. I went for the first interview. I felt good but I know I needed the job soon. I decided to apply The Secret. I decided to believe that I will get the job. Then, I was shortlisted for the second round of interview. Since attending the second interview, I became less active in my job hunting process and gradually I did not forward my resume as I needed to make myself believe that the job is mine to take.
I read about writing your own vision board in one of the stories posted here. One day, I took out my notebook, I listed 15 items in my vision board, things that I believe I want and I have for myself. The first item was about the job. That was two weeks ago. Every night before I sleep, I recite my vision board in my mind.
Today, I received the call that I’ve been waiting for! I have the job offer from the mining company and the remuneration package as well as the employee benefits were much better than my previous job offer and it far exceeded my expectations. I am really over the moon! I finally have my first full time permanent job. I am so grateful to find out about The Secret and I truly believed that it helped me to land the job. For now, I will continue to apply The Secret and I hope to use it to empower my life and I want to achieve the remaining 14 items in my vision board with more to come.
