Make Believe Until It’s Real

Before I read The Secret I could feel myself plummeting into depression. While everything was great in my personal life, which included planning my upcoming wedding, moving in with my fiancee, and having a fantastic relationship with my family, my career seemed to be heading nowhere. I had been stuck in a telesales job for over a year, and I wasn’t anywhere near being the journalist I’d always aspired to be. My work place had presented me with writing positions, only to steal them away from me due to my lack of experience. I applied for jobs elsewhere only to be given the same excuse. I’d hit a brick wall and was hating myself for it.
So I picked up a copy of The Secret and was immediately inspired to take action. I wrote myself a post-it note saying, ‘I have a new job,’ and I stuck it on my computer monitor at work to remind myself every day. I would even say it out loud to friends and family. If they asked where the new job was, I’d say, “I don’t know yet, but I know it’s on the way.”
I started cleaning out my computer files and emails, in preparation for moving on. I also started to dress up a bit more to suit my new job. I convinced myself so well that I had a new job that I truly believed it.
Then, a month ago, an internal copy writing/editorial position arose, and I got offered the job! So not only am I finally out of sales, but I didn’t have to leave behind my work colleagues or get settled into a new workplace!
As for my journalism aspirations, I’m back on track. At a recent primary school reunion, I told everyone that from this year I am a freelance journalist. I’d never used that title before because I thought I had to already be published before I could use it. But I committed myself to really start believing it.
Literally 2 days later, I picked up a free copy of a weekly magazine on the way to work, which had a community college booklet attached. I found a Freelance Journalism course being offered which was so convenient for me it was freaky. It was only a 10 minute walk from my workplace, and the classes started half an hour after I finished work, giving me enough time to pick up some dinner and get to the classroom. Also, it was very cheap and easily fit into my budget!
Within 2 weeks I had an article published in the commuter newspaper. Even though it took me 3 re-writes to get it right, I KNEW it would be published. Since then, I’ve had 2 more articles published in the paper, and everyone who reads them, loves them!
So I’m a true believer in The Secret. Now I’m just working on having perfect blemish free skin and being able to afford Laser Eye Surgery before my wedding in October. The cheque from this site will definitely come in handy!
