In 2006 I was let go from my job.

I started another job soon after, but they filed for bankruptcy and soon shut their doors. I found myself unemployed for 9 months until I took a minimum wage just to have some money for Christmas. I had to swallow my pride and get on public assistance.

I was embarrassed and ashamed of my situation. I didn’t want my family and friends to know how bad of a situation I was in. I was applying for jobs left and right to no avail. Numerous interviews that led to nothing, I was really starting to lose hope.

Then in the summer of 2007 I was watching a re-run episode of Oprah. The topic was “The Secret”. After watching the airing of the episode I sat down and started creating my vision board.

That same week I heard on the news that a new Honda Manufacturing plant was coming to Indiana and that they were accepting online applications. I immediately sat down at my laptop and applied. I then turned to my vision board and added Honda to it. I wasn’t sure what I would be doing if I did get hired, or even knowing a thing about cars for that matter, but my mind was dead set on getting hired at Honda.

When my husband came home from work I told him that I was done applying for any more jobs, because I knew Honda was going to call me. I must admit he thought I had finally lost my mind, but he said OK.

The new few months I continued working my minimum wage job, but every day reminded myself that one day the phone was going to ring and Honda would be on the other end.

In October of 2007 I got a phone call from Honda asking me if I could come in and take a test, but understood this would in no way guarantee me a spot or a job offer. When I showed up for testing we were told that they only had 1,000 positions available and over 33,000 people had applied. There were 500 people in my testing group and we were informed that we were randomly selected. I already felt like The Secret was beginning to work.

After the test we were told we would hear back in a few weeks, but nothing ever came in the mail nor did I receive a phone call. In December my husband approached me and said we didn’t have the money to get each other Christmas presents that year. I told him, “that’s fine, because my Christmas present is on it’s way.” He asked, “And what might that be?” I told him, “Honda, they are going to call me and offer me a job.”

Two days before Christmas, Honda called.

I was hired as a production associate.

I dropped to my knees and cried. my wish was granted. Soon after getting hired I got off public assistance and I revamped my vision board. I had new goals now that I had a job. The big items I wanted were:

Become a Supervisor at Honda

Become a Manager at Honda

Buy my first brand new car a Honda Accord

Take my kids to Disney world

Buy our first house

My wishes were granted!

In 2009 I became a Supervisor.

In 2010 I had my first house built and bought a 2010 Honda Accord

In 2012 I took my kids for a week long trip to Disney World

In 2013 I bought a Honda Pilot

3 weeks ago I became a Manager at Honda!
