Graduating Despite Exclusion.
Submitted by: Simphiwe Masilo
South AfricaI am a student at Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg and I am in my final year of my Bcom Double Major degree, Politics and Corporate Finance and Investment Management. I am also a project lead of the youth gender action plan at youth@saiia and co-founder of the activating youth activism podcasts and the founder of "The Real Tea On Self-Love" podcast. I am a daughter, sister and friend. Above and beyond I am a child of Euphoria.
At the end of the 2022 academic year, I was academically excluded from my university. I applied for an appeal and it was processed and I was no longer excluded.
Recently I noticed that I had once again been excluded and I was not permitted to register. At the point of my starting to write this story, I was still unable to register. However, I feel confident and I feel okay with an understanding that I will complete my final academic year at Wits this year. I feel safe with the knowledge that the Universe responds positively toward me and for that I am grateful.
I am grateful for all the work I put in and I am so grateful for all the results I receive. I am so very grateful for this opportunity to share my story and I am grateful to share my graduation too. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
