Uniting My Family – Thanks A Lot
Submitted by: Andres Barragan
La Paz, BoliviaI'm a 15 tear old kid, I'm currently in 10th grade and I live half time with my mother, her new husband, Pepe, and 3 wonderful, younger Step-siblings, and half time with my father, his new wife, and two step-siblings my age.
It started out as what should have been a normal summer. On my yearbook signatures page one of my best friends wrote “Have a great Summer, Love Luke”. Those words stuck to me and that’s when my mother brought in a book titled “The Secret”.
That day for the third time I met the triplets: Mario, Emmanuel, and Beatriz. They were my future step-brothers and sister. I knew that they lived in Florida and that they didn’t really like it as much as Bolivia, but we didn’t really have a close relationship. Anyways Mario, Emmanuel, and me ended up becoming best friends in the course of a week during which I read “The Secret”. It had been the best summer of my life! After that I saw them again for our parents wedding, and after that for spring break. The painful part was saying good-bye. I promised Emmanuel that I’d think about them every day, and he did the same. What he didn’t know was what would come out of it.
I decided that that would be the last time we’d ever be separated again. So all day I visualized how we’d eat dinner together, go to school together, and do everything we’d do when they came to live here. My mother somewhat knows The Secret, so I told her to be aware of any inspired thoughts and same with her husband. While visualizing as to how this would manifest, I had no idea and I decided not to go into details.
Over the next month a few things happened that made my step-brothers want to leave Florida and come to Bolivia even more. Within every part of me I knew that at some point during summer, which was approaching, Pepe, my mom’s husband, would announce the good news. I knew that the triplets would come here in June for the summer, we’d go to Florida in July and then we’d all come back to live in La Paz as the beautiful family we are now.
Sure enough, at the start of June, two months after I started the creative process, Pepe announced the great news at the table. All I could do was cry and hug Mario and Emmanuel, because I love them.
Now every day I write about our daily lives experience in a journal where I’ve also written “THANKS A LOT” like a thousand times. Thank you all – you’ve made my life and family wonderful!
