My whole life I have been horribly allergic to animals and to cats in particular. It did not help that I am a huge animal lover. All I have ever wanted is a pet of my own.

A few years ago I discovered that Russian Blue cats did not cause an allergic reaction with me. It has something to do with their saliva having fewer proteins than other cats. I decided that what I really, really wanted the most in the world was a Russian Blue cat. I contacted breeders but I felt wrong going down that path. I did not believe in supporting breeders or paying a fortune for an animal when so many need homes. After a few months of really putting my desire out there I had a desire to go to my local cat shelter. I just felt like cuddling kittens, not actually adopting an animal. It was a Thursday and it just so happened that I was free that day.

When I arrived at the cat shelter I was overwhelmed at the number of cats. All I really wanted to do was play with a kitten and deal with my allergies later. But the cats did not seem to be so mad about that. They were shy and some really were not that social. I realized that choosing a cat could be quite difficult.
The lady working at the shelter, realizing that I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of cats, mentioned that a Russian Blue had come in this week. What?!! I said please can you show me?!

Well, the Russian Blue cat was the only cat to approach me and let me cuddle her. She started purring immediately and kneading my arms, as if she was baking bread. We must have cuddled for an hour before I realized that the Universe had actually led her to me, and me to her! I took her home that day and we have been living happily ever after since and no allergies in sight!
