I wrote the submission “The Secret Works, Even For Us Lawyers” over 5 years ago. I was spending some time this morning for reflection and appreciation so I just wanted to provide an update. A 5 year check-in that might help others see that The Secret is not one of the other million fads that is only popular until the media anoints the best new thing.

My wife and I have been blessed with an amazing daughter and we continue to live our lives with an attitude of gratitude. It is so easy, especially when every single day the news inundates the public with constant reasons to be fearful, to start feeling sad, hopeless, or sorry for yourself when things do not go exactly as planned. I am just as guilty of doing this as anyone but “The Secret” is my rock, my north star, my constant reminder that I control my destiny.

My business has gown exponentially over the last 5 years.The Secret has brought me more business than I could ever have imagined and I struggle with figuring out how to be better at turning down work. I know… it is not a terrible problem to have. Sometimes once you turn the faucet on it is hard to turn it down or even off.

Then there are days when the inhumanity of others really makes you question everything. I just have to remind myself that I cannot change the entire world (even though I try to everyday) but I can change my world. We all have been blessed with free will and have been empowered with the ability to chose what kind of thoughts to fill our minds with. I often remind clients when I hear them say “I’ll believe it when I see it” that by changing a few words their whole life can change. If they would instead “See it and then believe it” the possibilities are limitless.

It is not an easy process. Nothing of value is, but I doubt anyone has ever said on their death bed “I wish I didn’t spend so much time being positive, happy and optimistic.”

I am forever grateful for Ms. Byrne opening my eyes to the laws of attraction. I remain inspired by her work and reading all the amazing stories on the website.
