Picture yourself there!

I had dropped out of college to work and figure out what I really wanted to do with my life. When I finally went back, I signed up for architecture and design classes. I was determined to get straight A’s and transfer to the school of my dreams. I had always wanted to attend an Ivy League school on my own. So when it came time to apply to high level design schools, I applied to 4 of the best, with Cornell University being my top choice.
When I received the information in the mail, I saw this incredible photo of the inside of the architecture and arts library. This student was reading a book next to this beautiful window looking out onto a snow filled campus. I knew right then that is where I wanted to be and where I would be. My current professors wrote me recommendations, but said, “No-one from here has ever been accepted in all my years of teaching.” My response was always, well I increase my chances 1000 fold if I apply! I refused to let anyone tell me to lower my expectations.
I just knew that is where I was going. When the mail showed up one spring day, there was a thick envelope from the Cornell admissions office. I knew they did not send thick envelopes with denial letters. Sure enough, I was accepted and given a full scholarship! I was so excited I ran back to campus and burst into the room yelling for joy! That was one of the best moments of my life. You really need to own it and see it and see yourself there and not let anyone dissuade you from your dreams!
