Kathy’s Check
Submitted by: Kathy R.
Oak Creek, WII am the 33 year old single mother of a beautiful 16 year old boy named Joseph. I did not make the best decisions as a young girl/woman. I was very rebellious, mischievous, and negative. I struggled for many years with money and relationships, until I was introduced to The Secret.
In 2007 while living back with my parents and filing for my second bankruptcy I met a new friend who introduced me to The Secret. She lent me her book. At first I was skeptical, but she kept reminding me to “live it”. I eventually gave my friend back her book and bought my own copy. I read passages every day and really, really tried my hardest to live it and to believe it. I started being nicer to people, seeing the good in everything and everyone, being thankful for what I DID have – be it a loving family, my amazing son, or good health, and not focus on what I DIDN’T have – money, my own home, a good paying job.
Slowly things started to change. I landed a great job which has now turned into my career, and I moved out of my parents home into my own rental home, which gave me a new found pride in myself. But the reason for this submission is what happened to me recently, which was absolutely remarkable.
I was in an auto accident in 2007. A man ran a stop sign and side-swiped my truck. I was not seriously injured, however suffered significant pain due to injuries from a previous accident which flared up. I filed a law suit, however my attorneys were having a difficult time proving my case due to my pre-existing conditions. I had close to $40,000 in medical bills and daily pain. We asked for $100,000 from the insurance company and they slapped me in the face with an offer of $4,800. I decided to take the case to trial – jury trial scheduled for June, 2011.
In January 2011 (January 1st, to be exact), after re-reading the chapter on The Secret to Money, I created a check on the computer made out to me from The Secret for $25,000. I said to myself, “I will have $25,000 within the next four months,” just like the chapter tells me to. I signed the check and kept it in the front of my wallet so every time I opened it I saw my check and acted like I just forgot to deposit it. Recently I had mediation between my attorney and the insurance company. We were able to negotiate the offered settlement of $4,800 to $25,000. The date of my settlement was April 1, 2011, EXACTLY four months from the date I wrote my check from The Secret.
I continue every day to “live it,” and continue to encounter more and more good and happiness. I cannot express in words how much this book has changed my life. I share it with anyone willing to listen.
Thank you!!!
