Whatever Mind Of Man Can Conceive
Submitted by: Carmen
Saskatoon, SKThe first time I read The Secret was over two years ago. I remember my first thoughts being it cant be that simple… or there must be a catch. When I finished the book and decided to give it a try, I realized that it actually wasnt very simple. At the start, I had a difficult time not thinking negatively. I could easily imagine clear thoughts of what I wanted to attract to my life, but as I imagined these thoughts a voice in the back of my head was yelling Yeah right! That’s never going to happen! So I worked hard at becoming more optimistic, and slowly began to eliminate negative thoughts.
Within a short while, I could catch my negative thinking probably 70% of the time and then replace it with something positive. For example, when I would dread waking up in the morning to go to school, I would replace that negative thought by realizing that some people could only dream of going to a nice, safe school, and being able to go to a welcoming home and family after. I started making myself stop taking so many things for granted! Soon I was able to use my imagination to attract things without having negative thoughts get in the way.
The only way I could focus on images of what I wanted was by listening to my iPod and letting my mind drift away from everything (On average, I did this about an hour everyday). I would go on the treadmill and imagine, lie in my bed and imagine, sit on the bus and imagine, etc. The best part is that it wasnt a chore at all! I couldve imagined for hours on end because it made me happy to actually see these things clearly in my head. Another thing I did was write what I wanted on paper. I didnt do this as often as I imagined, but I believe it had an impact. For example, I wrote I have an amazing boyfriend, he loves me, and hes so good to me (notice how I acted as if I already had a boyfriend–I didnt at the time!).
I was indeed trying to attract a wonderful boyfriend into my life. I believe the imagining process was the most effective part of bringing such a relationship into my life. What exactly did I imagine? Well, first of all I created a person who I had never met before a fiction (but at the same time non-fiction!) character. He was charming, attractive, and loyal. I named him Connor (which is simply a random name not influenced by anyone in my life). I imagined scenarios of us doing every-day things like being in the mall, being at a hockey game, a family gathering, at the lake, etc. and I told myself Somebody like Connor exist and one day youll meet him, just wait. This sounds bizarre but I think I fell for this crazy made-up character! I kept on imagining and I had no idea how long Id have to imagine but I kept on doing it. So, I told myself I will quit when I find the person who can replace Connor and erase him from my mind completely. About 4-5 months later, Connor was replaced.
This just goes to show that the Law of Attraction is a very powerful thing so be careful and have fun!
