I have been practicing teachings of ‘The Secret’ and gratitude since 2011. Well, on and off! This is my second story here, and I would like to share my experience with you as a tribute to the Universe.

I have been working as a contractor for the last 1 and half years and I was extremely underpaid. My Boss initially explained that she would appraise me at the end of my first year and promote me to a permanent position. However, things did not work the way we had assumed. My 1st Boss left the company when I completed 7 months. Our department faced radial changes at the management level that highly affected all employees’ workload, peace of mind and work-life balance. Additionally, as the icing on the cake, I did not even have any job security. I was hearing empty promises from the management for a couple of months with no actual fruition of a permanent position.

In the mid-February this year, one night I wrote a note on my phone about what I wanted in my desired job. I specified my desired salary, benefits, mentioned the location to be within 10 miles from my home, work from home opportunity, bonus, vacations, supportive and nice coworkers, work-life balance, happiness, peace of mind, etc. I gave the Universe a one month time frame.
Things started moving in a couple of days but apparently, in a negative way. Some senior members of the team left the company in the following weeks, leaving the rest of us with huge workloads. My 2nd Boss moved to a different department. This happened close to the one month timeframe I mentioned in my note. I looked at my phone note and couldn’t help but wonder why things were moving in the opposite direction! However, I still kept my faith, thanked God and the Universe for what I had and meditated regularly.

At one point I started applying for jobs to other places. In spite of having an advanced degree in my field and the required skill sets, I was not getting any interview calls. Sometimes even though I would get selected by phone interview, I was getting rejections after that due to limited work experience.

Two new people then took charge of our department, one month each! We were left in chaos. Then came the day when an announcement was made about merging of our department with the same department of our mother company in two weeks, and an immediate transition of all ‘permanent employees’ to the new department. I was stunned because I was still a contractor who did not know whether I would still have a job after two weeks. I expressed my situation to a very supportive person at the management level. He and my 3rd Boss recommended me to the new department’s director. The day after the merger happened, I was called for an interview with our new director.

In another 10 days, I got my job offer. Yes! This time as a permanent employee! The salary is slightly lower than what I wrote in my note, however I am not complaining. It is still a huge leap up from my previous compensation. Also, the other features match quite well with what I wrote in my note.
