Music has been a huge part of my life since I was a child. I wrote the lyrics to my first song when I was nine and five years ago, after the passing of a close friend, I decided to really pursue my dream of being a songwriter. In January of 2011, I thought I was truly heading in the right direction with my band, The Elastic Hoax. It had taken me a couple of years to assemble my band mates, but after we started making music, we were able to record our debut album, “It Never Happened Anyway…”
Sadly, everything started to fall apart as one band member left, then the next and from there it seemed over before it even started. I have always been the type of guy that would rather be proactive than reactive, so I started putting up ads and postings on websites within the first week of the band’s demise. I had already started writing songs for the next album and was determined to record them.
Right away, within the first couple of days, I found my new drummer, electric guitarist, and my new bass player. I felt an energy in Dave, Jon and Kurt that I knew was right. The trials and tribulations from the last group of band mates was gone and replaced by a group of people that were genuinely rooting for each other. It was so refreshing, it was as if I needed the other band mates to leave, so I could find my new ones. To top it all off, we even found Naomi, our back up singer a month later. She completed the new line up of The Elastic Hoax.
We recorded the next album over the winter and by spring, we released it. We named it, “Turn On the Light”. Our CD release was a huge success and then, my friend Jackie gave me The Secret DVD and book because something told her I needed to read it.
I was hooked. I watched the DVD twice in a row and felt a tingle going through my body. Things started to make sense for the first time. Just take a look at what the name of the first album was…”It Never Happened Anyway…” Guess what? It never happened! What’s the name of the second album? “Turn On the Light”. WOW! I made my vision board the next day. I also wrote a letter from a future perspective. “I am so happy and grateful that The Elastic Hoax has been discovered…” That was my first line.
The next day I got a phone call asking us to play Riverfest, Hartford, CT’s huge fourth of July celebration!!! It was amazing. And it didn’t stop there either. Wonderful, amazing things started to happen! We just found out this week that we won in Hartford Advocate’s Grand Band Slam 2011!!! And- we got asked to play our first NYC gig this September at The National Underground!
I am so happy and grateful for what has happened in my life. Everything was leading me here. All of my thoughts are becoming reality.
Thank You! It’s all happening…
