I have recently been studying The Secret and making some changes in my life. This has been the most transforming and exciting thus far. My daughter attends a large HS and I am not well acquainted with the staff and the system. She is hard working and responsible. A few days ago, she received a disciplinary consequence I felt was totally unfair and I knew I had to address the situation with the school administrative staff. This left me feeling angry, anxious, and in a one-down position.

I decided I did not want these negative feelings and began to throw out all the thoughts about what I did not want and what I was anxious about. I begin to tell myself, “I want to advocate for my daughter,” and, “My daughter deserves to be treated fairly.” To my amazement, I began to look forward to talking with the school staff and all anger and anxiety had dissolved.

The day I went into the school, I used the preparation and visualization of how the day would go discussed in The Secret. When I arrived at the school, I felt amazing confidence and personal power. The person I asked to talk to was not available, and I refused to be disappointed, having faith that all was proceeding for the good. As the staff took my information for a call back, they offered that another might be able to help me. He was available and turned out to be an administrator I had met before and had a positive experience with. Also, his role was more appropriate for addressing the situation.

I left the interview feeling I had presented my case with great clarity and positive energy. Later that day I got the word that the school staff agreed with my perspective and that my daughter was not to serve the consequence we both felt to be inappropriate. Would the outcome have been the same for my daughter even if I had not used The Secret? I like to think so, but will never know. I do know that what may seem like a small incident to others has changed me. All this time, all that personal power was just there and I didn’t know it. Now I know I can always find it and I am so excited about ALL the adventure my life has in store for me.
