I was raised by a very negative-minded man (whose soul was broken in the WW II) and learned early on that Murphy’s Law is the ultimate truth in life. Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong. I believed it, but there was also this little voice in my head saying that things can be OK as well.

For several years my marriage has been on the rocks. I won’t go into details but let’s just say I have endured a lot of heartache and misery. In one of my darkest moments I found (by “accident”) Louise L. Hay’s book “You Can Heal Your Life”. In it she says that you create your world with your thoughts. I found the message very comforting and with the help of my daily affirmations that I had learned from Louise, I survived the hardship somehow.

Then last November, I, again by “accident”, found an article on The Secret. The writer had read the book and wanted to test if it works. He had always dreamed of living in Spain and so he set his mind on this goal and followed The Secret instructions. The result was that he had written the article I read – in Spain. He made it, thanks to The Secret.

I bought the book and found it oddly alluring. LOA is so simple. It is so crazy and yet it makes so much sense, so I started to practice it. And I slowly came to know that it works. My little money problems got solved, little miracles started to happen. But the big issues remained. I realized that something was missing and I soon discovered what.

I had just moved to Muscat and had rented a car. Traffic in the Gulf is crazy – people get killed in accidents like nobody’s business. Muscat city is one tangle of 6 lane highways were people drive like mad. It freaked me out!

That day I went to a bank to open a bank account. I had a check for another bank that I needed to cash. I asked instructions to get to this bank which, I knew, was the other side of the city. They told me to take this way and turn right at that round-about and then turn to left etc and they could have spoken Arabic, I understood nothing of what they said and started to sink into despair.

I went to my car and took a deep breath. I had to find the bank because I needed the money. There was no one in sight to help me. So I took a deep breath and said to myself: You start the engine and you start driving. Go any which way and turn where ever and have faith. In 15 minutes you’ll park your car in front of the bank.

I started driving and forced myself to stay calm and focused on the fact that I will make it and it is a piece of cake! I had a few moments of despair but I fought back and kept smiling and singing and admiring the beautiful city and the wonderful cars that drove past me.

Needless to say, in exactly 15 minutes I parked my car in front of the bank.

So I guess this is how The Secret works. You set your goal and then, all you have to do is to enjoy the ride. Because you WILL get there if you just have faith. It is like sitting in a taxi, going to somewhere and knowing that even if there are some traffic jams and road constructions, you will get where you are going.

The problem with me is that I am not able to apply this to the bigger scenes of my life, yet. I still worry about the “hows” and the “ifs”.

And this is why I am not there yet. But I will! And so will you if you just have faith!
