There’s No Place Like Home

West Sacramento, CAI am a married mother of four adult children. I grew up on the beautiful North Coast of California. Recently, my husband and I moved to the Sacramento area to further our careers in healthcare.
After spending a lifetime living on the beautiful, rural north coast of California, work related pressures brought my husband and I to the urban scene of Central California. Initially, we purchased a small home in a newly re-developed industrial area of West Sacramento.
The home was new, nicely situated within walking distance of businesses and restaurants, but the sounds of the traffic, the highways, and the trains were constant. Coming from a lifetime of rural living, and heavy hearted from leaving behind cherished family and friends, this constant assault of noise was disheartening. We missed the quiet, the Redwood Trees, and we missed having space enough to enjoy having friends and family come and visit. After several failed attempts to buy homes in quieter neighborhoods, we gave up, determined that we just had to get used to the noise and urban clatter.
Shortly after making that decision, we found the perfect home online! It was the perfect size for us, in a quiet residential neighborhood filled with families and children, and it had a huge back yard, a pool and most important, our beloved Redwood Trees!!! We contacted the Realtor immediately and were told that someone had already made an offer and the buyer accepted it. We were sad, but asked the Realtor if he could allow us to see the home anyway. He met us at the house, and we were more convinced than ever that this was our house!!!
As I walked through the yard, I paused to touch one of the beautiful redwood trees, and really felt deep in my heart like I was finally home! We drove away from the home with no reason to hope.
Then I remembered something about The Secret. I didn’t need to worry about the HOW it was going to happen, I just knew that somehow this was our home. I could see us living there, I could hear our adult children enjoying family dinners together in the kitchen and I felt happier than I had since we left our home in the country.
Over the next three weeks, we continued to refer to the home as “our home” and continued to contact the Realtor with ideas to make our dream a reality, none of which were viable!
So, one night, my husband awoke and said “I know, I will call the Realtor and ask him to ask the buyer if she will sell us the house before she takes possession if we added $25,000 profit to her bottom line!” I thought it might work, so again, I called the Realtor with our latest brain storm. By now I am sure he was sick of hearing from us!
A day passed, and then two. So after work, I picked up my phone to call him again, and my phone actually started ringing in my hand before I dialed!
It was our Realtor.
I answered, prepared to try to sell him on our latest idea. “Hello” I said. He replied “Wendy, you’ve been praying, haven’t you”, and I said “Well, yes I have, but why, what do you mean?”
And he explained that, although this had never happened to him before, the buyer backed out before the escrow closed! She just decided that she didn’t want to go through with the purchase!
The time was right for us to make our bid! We did so immediately and the seller accepted!
We will move in to our beautiful home in two weeks!!!!
