Over a decade ago I was sitting in a hairdressing salon, flicking through a beautiful fashionista glossy magazine. Then I saw it. The most stunning ring art piece I had ever seen. Cubism by Stefano Canturi. The salon let me have the magazine as it was several months old and I stuck that one beautiful glossy black page on my fridge. The sparkling diamonds shining out between the kids drawings, school notes and bill reminders.

Three years later I was in Melbourne on holiday, and saw a Canturi store. I’d never been to a jewellery store where you had to show id before you even crossed the threshold. I was well and truly intimidated. However I proceeded to tell the assistant my story and practically begged to see this ring in person. She kindly let me try it on, ‘feeling’ being part of my manifestation process and my eyes filled with tears. It truly was magnificent. I timidly asked how much it was and nearly choked when she replied $15,000. Nevertheless the photo stayed on my fridge.

I should say that I am neither a materialistic or fashionable person. In fact, tom boy would best describe my dress sense, but the beauty of this art piece would not leave me and I truly believed one day I would own it.

Two years later, upon the death of my Mother, I travelled to Ireland for respite. Ancient rock wall patterns reminded me once again of the ring and I wondered if that is perhaps why it spoke to me in the first place. A hark back to my newly discovered heritage perhaps. I knew so.

Upon my return, I logged onto my laptop and was inundated with a month’s worth of emails. I decided to start at the most recent first. I could not believe my eyes when I read an Ebay notification that a ‘Canturi’ search I had entered 2 years prior was available. A woman had listed her beloved wedding ring for sale as she was newly divorced and wanted to travel. The notification I read, which had only come in the past hour before, indicated that $2,000 would be her final list price, having started at $10,000 a month earlier.

I had never bought anything off Ebay before much less a ring valued at $15,000, but I fumbled my way through. When it finally arrived by registered post, my husband gallantly placed it on my ring finger with a loving speech. It was our 10th year anniversary. It became my Eternity ring and it brings a smile, and indeed a deep feeling of deep gratitude every time I look at it.
