The Perfect Pet
Submitted by: Shawn R.
MichiganI had wanted a dog for the family for years. I researched all different breeds, hoping to choose a great family pet. Each time I’d do my research however, I’d end up shutting my computer down for the day and thinking “What am I doing… we’re gone for so many hours each day, I don’t have the money for a dog, they are so much work.” You know the negative thoughts that can creep in.
After several years of doing this, I found the French Bulldog breed. I decided the timing was right – my kids were old enough to help take care of it, and were home all day in the summer months, yep, now is the time. Another several months of searching for breeders and sorting through rescue sites, and I found a breeder who was closing her business and selling her adults. I even had negative thoughts about that as well… this woman lived 6 hours away, I wouldn’t be able to save the large amount money before all of these adorable dogs had been snatched up, and what was I thinking, I don’t have two nickels to rub together, let alone the $800 purchase price!
But something told me to just go for it. I made my desktop background my own version of a vision board. I put up a picture of the most adorable Frenchie she had available, and each day I’d look at her and imagine petting her and playing with her and snuggling with her. I imagined taking her to the vet for clean bills of health (lots of Frenchies have health issues) and even let Guns-N-Roses “You Should Be Mine” run through my head as I was looking at her pretty picture – I modified the words a little, but I’d laugh at myself doing it every time.
Needless to say, my little girl is happy, healthy, and HERE!! For nearly one year, we have been the proud owners of the best dog in the world, and I am thankful for her and for the Universe bringing her to us every single day!
