The Parking Spot.
Submitted by: Gigi
Lima, PeruI came from Lima Peru at the age of 21 years old. After working in the hotel industry for a few months, I joined the Navy to get money for college and see the world. I have visited over 15 countries since then and currently hold a Bachelor's Degree in Paralegal Studies. I am currently stationed onboard a ship in Yokosuka, Japan.
A dear friend of mind had recommended to me to read The Secret. After listening to the audio book that said to help “prove” the effectiveness of The Secret, you could start with something small. I remember back then, my ship was being fixed, therefore we had been moved to a temporary location where the parking lot was very small, and every day was a constant battle to try to find a parking spot. Therefore, I started visualizing one parking spot that was always open in that tiny parking lot and my car entering it.
Starting that day and most days, I would usually find a parking spot in there, but it was not an every day thing. I kept visualizing the same scenario, over and over. About a month later, my command announced the results of a competition in which I had participated but I had completely forgotten about: The Sailor of the Year competition. I didn’t even think about the possibility of winning because everyone I competed against were great and they had been at my command longer than I had.
Low and behold, I won the competition. And you would never guess what one of the awards was!
My OWN reserved parking spot, right across the street from the ship for an entire year! It freaked me out, literally.
This event showed me the power of The Secret and I use all of it’s teachings every day. Since then I have also heard the audio book version of The Power and Hero. It doesn’t matter how many times I listen to it, I play it over and over again, to keep it’s teachings fresh on my mind and to remind myself to visualize and practice gratitude.
Thank you Rhonda!
