The force of being positive
Submitted by: Kieven
The Hague, The NetherlandsI'm a father of two lovely kids and living together with my lovely wife whom I've known for 26 years.
Dear Rhonda,
I have listened and read your (audio) books many times now, and try to live my life according to these rules. At first nothing happened, but after a while small changes appeared in my daily life. And in gratitude of what it did for me I would like to share two stories:
A few weeks ago, my boss fired me. Luckily it did not come as a surprise, and I was able to have a nice conversation with my boss. He offered me the chance to use a famous Dutch outplacement bureau to help me find a new job. Everybody in my neighbourhood was angry at my boss, but I managed to stay positive and told everybody that it was him who gave me the job in the first place and gave me a challenging job for two years.
Now the job offers flow in, I can pick a job every week, but since I have till June to find a new job I now enjoy the time with my family and friends.
The other matter which I would like to share is that last weekend I met some old friends of the neighbourhood where we spent our youth and where I lived back again for the last six years. We were gossiping about my next door neighbour, telling each other that he was not better then he was as a kid, now living in his mothers house after she passed away. I realised that we were gossiping, so I ended the discussion with, “Despite all of these problems he is a very loving father for his kids.”
That evening, it was Sinterklaass Pakjes avond, a Dutch festival similar to boxing day, getting presents under the tree and our gifts came in a big gunny sack. To my amazement the doorbell rang and the son of this neighbour dressed up like Zwarte Piet, one of the helpers of Sinterklaas, was at our doorstep giving candy to our kids. For me this proved the force of good feelings, and I will practice this even more than I used to do it.
Rhonda, thank you for your wisdom – my life is turning to be my dream.
