The Best Dream of My Life
Submitted by: Janelle W.
Jupiter, FLI am 22 years old and a current college student. I have just recently received the audio book of The Secret for my birthday and listen to it in my car on a daily basis.
I was living on my own with a few friends for the very first time. I was fresh out of high school and was a struggling college student working at a local restaurant to pay all my new bills. I had a few unsuccessful relationships and was beginning to get a little hard on myself.
One day I had a few of my friends come over to hang out one night and while we were chatting, one of my friends suggested getting a companion dog. I’ve always had dogs growing up but now that I had my own place I didn’t have a dog of my own, and knew I wanted to adopt one. I told my friends I would sleep on it because it was a big decision.
That night I had a dream that I had adopted a dog, but not just any dog. It was a female mixed breed around thirty pounds and tri-colored (my favorite color combination on any animal). The dream felt so real I didn’t realize I was sleeping until I woke up the next morning. I happened to have off that next day from work, which happened to be a Friday, and had a weird urge that I still cannot explain to this day to visit the local animal shelter and just “take a look”. When I arrived I could not believe what I saw. The very first dog I saw was the exact dog in my dream! A small dog around twenty to thirty pounds, and she was a tri-colored mixed breed! Every dog around her was excited and barking, but she was nestled in her blanket in the back of her crate and looked terrified of the surrounding noise. I was drawn to her. I asked the kennel attendant if I could take her out to play. Within five minutes of meeting her, Lady was her name, I knew I had to adopt her. I told the attendant I would like to adopt Lady, but to my disappointment, for some reason they were closed for adoption that Friday and would not re-open for adoption until that following Monday. I was a little upset but I knew I had to have her.
The next day I went and visited Lady and took her for short walks and sat next to her crate for a long while just stroking her. Again, I went on Sunday to play with her and bond with her. I knew she would be mine and I wanted to start the bonding process early. After my visit with her on Sunday, even though there was no guarantee I would get to adopt her because of a first come first serve basis, I stopped at Wal-Mart and loaded up my cart with a crate, dog food, bedding, toys, treats, a collar and a leash. Everything I would need to take care of her. I went straight home and set everything up as if I were bringing her home the next day. I laid in my bed and looked down at the crate and pictured her tucked into her blanket and looking up at me.
Everything was set in place except one major detail. The shelter opened Monday at ten a.m. and I had to be at work at ten a.m. I scrambled around trying to find someone to cover my shift. I then decided to go into work to continue my mission and I looked up at the schedule board and there was a note stating that one of my co-workers was looking to pick up Monday afternoon! I was so excited! We arranged for him to come in for me and I was filled with excitement. The next morning I woke up extra early and arrived at the shelter one hour before they opened. The minute they unlocked the door I raced in and immediately asked to adopt Lady. The attendant smiled and handed me the paperwork to fill out. I crossed the “T’s” and dotted the “I’s” and not even a minute after I handed in my paperwork, a man and his young daughter walked in to inquire about adopting Lady. I was so excited that I beat him to it that I almost wanted to rub it in the man’s face that I had already adopted her (I didn’t of course).
It has been three years since that day and my love for Lady grows every day. This was long before I knew the knowledge of The Secret, so when I first discovered it, there was no doubt in my mind that I was subconsciously using the law of attraction to manifest my best friend. It is also because of this story that I truly believe in The Secret and have used it to manifest all the good in my life.
