My husband received in the mail ‘The Secret’ DVD as a birthday gift from his best friend in Colorado in August, 2007. However, we didn’t get around to viewing it until about two weeks later. And though we were a bit skeptical at first, because of the controversy and that it might be just another ‘how to’ film, we realized after about the first ten minutes that this was something special, something both he and I could understand and relate to. We continue to watch it again and again, getting more out of it with each viewing. About a week later, I bought the book, so now we refer to both the movie and the book.

And since then, we’ve had some interesting experiences, albeit in mostly minor, but just as fascinating ways; e.g., getting a particular seat on a subway train and receiving small amounts of money here and there, etc.

But there were two more ‘major’ experiences that happened that stand out, one that happened to my husband and the other one to me.

My husband had been sick with a persistant cough for several weeks, and nothing he did helped to get rid of it. Though his coworkers and classmates insisted he go to a doctor, he felt it was just his allergies. Though I felt it to be just his allergies too, I was bit concerned and hoped he could find out for sure, without him having to go to a doctor if possible. Then one day soon after I had said that, at his job a regular customer of his was in for something. She happens to be a nurse, and after he told her about his symptoms, she reassured him he was ok and it was only his allergies. She told him to take some over the counter meds, and soon it would be gone. Boy, was I glad about that, and thanked the Universe profusely. He is now much better, and I’m much more at ease.

With me, one day at my job a coworker, for some unknown reason and out of the blue, handed me a ‘check’ for one million dollars! Yes, it wasn’t a real check, just handwritten on a small piece of paper, designed to ‘look’ like a check. I glanced at it and asked him why he was giving me this. And what he told me was just amazing. He said, very simply, that I worked very hard and that I was a nice person and deserved to have it. Never once before did he do or say anything like this, and though we get along fairly well, this really shocked me and touched my heart. Though this happened a few weeks ago, he keeps kidding me about it, teasing me about still working now that I’m ‘rich’. And I guess I am ‘rich’, more than I realized. So now I keep it in my wallet to help me remember what he said and to believe that I, and my family, will be richer and more abundant as time goes on.

Finally, my husband and I realize that, though we just came upon ‘The Secret’, it’s been working for us, individually and together, for years. Though we may not have known it, in retrospect we can see it, both in small and big ways. This helps us to continue to believe and trust in it, so our future will indeed be richer and more abundant.
