Running a business with two partners in Northern Louisiana was a tough deal. The business was slow and I really wanted to move on, but I felt so much responsibility to my partners that I couldn’t honestly entertain the concept of moving on. I joked about it with them from time to time, but nothing serious. My wife of eleven years was very supportive even as she tried to raise three kids with less and less. Bills were mounting and it was getting tough.

My brother handed me The Secret one night as I was venting to him, without saying much about it. The next evening I opened it up and read to page 15 and set it down. I called my brother and told him my doubts of “The Law of Attraction” as it was written in the book. Sure, each person has the ability to do great things, but the cosmos is not going to ‘move’ things for you. If you want a mountain moved grab a shovel and a wheelbarrow.

A few days later I picked the book back up and read it. No way. Something told me I would get more out of it if I watched the movie, so I ordered it and watched it. My wife watched it with me and we played Bob Proctor’s summary a few times. I forgot it… she didn’t!

Just for laughs I threw out there that I would get 5K of unexpected income before years’ end. It was possible. I got a VERY unexpected bonus through work of 1K the next week. Still… no way.

The following week we received a call that my mother-in-law had suffered a stroke in Denver, CO. 17.5 hours away. We loaded up, got to Denver on a Saturday, and visited until Sunday when we left. My wife told me she wanted to move to Denver to be with her mom. I was good with it, except for a few things:

1. We needed $3500.00 free cash.
2. I needed to be released from my responsibilities at work without hurt feelings or regret.
3. We needed a place to stay in Denver.
4. We needed out of our lease in the house we were living in.
5. We needed a school that could deal with our Autistic son.

No worries! We discussed it on Monday and she said she wanted to move in a week. I told her she was nuts, but when we got some things moved around we would go.

Tuesday morning I went to work and we had a short meeting. They knew I wanted to move on and we all knew the business couldn’t support all of the payroll. We discussed a few dollars to get me to the next job. They came up with $3000.00. (After our bills my bank account was at $512.00… that’s real close to $3500!) A few minutes later my wife called and said her mom had called and offered the use of her huge basement if we ever wanted to visit or move up there. She came and picked me up from work and as we were going home it was almost as if a force was moving us along. It was a spiritual moment. It felt as if we were in a canoe going downstream with no worries. All we had to do was ride. Needless to say the next Monday (exactly the day she wanted to move) we were loaded up and headed to Denver.

The school is awesome, the landlord was great about us leaving on short notice, and it was done. As we were getting ready to leave I looked at my wife and said, “Can you believe how fast this is happening?” She replied, “You can’t fight The Secret!” Wow! She used The Secret! Awesome!!!

So I used it to find work, which I received the first interview I went to. When I went to get my resume copied at Kinkos the guy said I’d probably only need one. He was right. I got the job I wanted. In the interview, by the way, my new boss looked up and said, “I’m not sure why I’m bringing this up, but have you read The Secret?” Yeah… this is the job for me.

My only regret is that I didn’t tell my wife we needed 10K instead of 3.5K.

Oh, and as we were leaving town a family member gave us $1000.00. The bonus, the severance, and the gift brought our unexpected income to $5000.00. I believe now. Yes way.
