Remember The Secret, Panic Attacks
Submitted by: Alicia
South Florida37 years old, an attorney.
A few years ago I bought and watched The Secret, and so many amazing things started to happen to me. In fact, I even submitted a story here that was posted, about my dolphin sighting near my building. At any rate, things had been going so well for me in every area: relationships, work, health, wealth. And then…. I got lazy!! I stopped using the Secret on a routine basis! Now things didn’t fall apart, but some things in my life did change for the worse.
Now you’re probably wondering why I entitled my story, “Remembering the Secret – Panic attacks, I hear you, Lauren.” Just a few days ago a friend of mine talked me into training for a marathon. Now, mind you, I have NEVER run a marathon or even a half-marathon, so I thought, I will never be able to do this! But, I reluctantly agreed to begin training. So what do you think happened? Negative thoughts, negative outcome! On this, my third day into the training at the end of a 3-mile run, I felt pretty awful. In fact, I had started to feel a panic attack coming on, because I convinced myself that maybe THIS time something was really wrong with me!!! If you’ve never had a panic attack, they’re difficult to describe, but basically, you feel like something is really wrong with you and that you are dying. I know, sounds awful. Now, I have always thought the worst thing about a panic attack is that I create it myself!! In other words, nothing is “physically” wrong with you, you just “feel” as though there is!
Recognizing this negative thought, I knew what I had to do! I immediately logged onto “The Secret” and began reading others’ stories. And just as I knew it would, The Secret delivered, and I found a story about an 18-year old girl (also from my area!! Coincidence? I think not – it’s the Secret!) named Lauren, who told her heartfelt and painful story about panic attacks and her determination to not let them control her life. As I continued reading her story, I immediately felt a sense of calm wash over me.
Lauren reminded me that panic is all in my own mind, and that I can control it, and I needn’t be afraid of it!! As soon as I remembered this bit of sage advice, I immediately started to feel better! All at once, my heart rate returned to normal, I no longer felt lightheaded or dizzy, and I felt good once again… more myself.
So the moral of the story is, don’t forget about the Secret and how powerful it is. I wanted to thank Lauren and everyone else who shares their stories here. It is really inspiring and helps me to remember to put the Secret into practice each day. Now I will remember while training for this marathon that I CAN DO IT. No, pardon, I WILL DO IT!!! Next time you hear from me in January, I will be telling my story of how I crossed the finish line!!
Thank you!
