Dorset, EnglandA woman in her early twenties who didn’t know what to do with her life. Or more precisely, I didn’t know how to get what I wanted in life.
A year prior to graduation I got a feeling in my belly. Later it was followed by a lot of nagging thoughts regarding my future after university. I graduated in 2020 and a lot of my plans fell through. After the COVID lockdown, I felt uninspired and scared because I didn’t know what to do with myself. The area I studied held no interest to me anymore. I felt paralyzed by fear. I didn’t see how I could ever get out of my hometown. My relationship with my family was strained to say the least.
On a random Sunday, I was walking down one of the aisles at a car boot sale. I saw a book on someone’s stand. I vaguely recognized the cover as I had definitely seen it before. I picked it up and asked the lady how much she’d like for it. 50p she said. I thought, why not? At this point, I had also been in therapy for a year and I was very open to trying new things. I went down the self-help book route too but so far I had not had much luck connecting to any text.
I can’t remember when I started reading The Secret. Or what chapter it was that really hit me. All I remember was warmth spreading through me as I read this book. I felt my cheeks aching after a while and I didn’t even realize that I was smiling. You mean I shouldn’t have to suffer?? But everyone always says life is hard and that you have to work so hard for things. You mean I can have anything I can think of? That it is my right?! I felt so at home. I had not felt that way probably since I was a child.
So at first, I was completely in awe just by the way the book made me feel. I felt the easiest way for me to start putting what I read to work was to visualize. I often put headphones on as music can really transform me to places. With the music on, I closed my eyes and was transported to my reality. I saw myself with a job that I loved working the hours that I wanted. I saw a happy, healthy Natalia. I felt love. I felt peace. I felt something that made me cry. It was the happiest cry I’ve ever had.
When I finished the book I read it again. I read a chapter every day, even to this day. I have The Secret and The Power and I change between those two as I found that I get the best results by studying the text. But I never force myself. The need to re-read comes effortlessly.
Over time I found a car I wanted. I was such an anxious driver and couldn’t get used to any car. Well, I saw myself in my mind driving a car as effortlessly as breathing. It was second nature to me. I found my perfect car on Facebook marketplace. The car came and as soon as I turned on the engine. I told myself it would be as effortless as breathing. I also saw myself returning safely to my house and already being grateful for the safe journey.
I found a job that suits my needs. I am in the process of moving out of my parent’s house. I healed myself via laughter. I feel light. I gained so much knowledge and I think one of the best things I took from The Secret was the fact that I do not let a day go by without saying thank you for it. I am so grateful that the book found me. I am thankful for my life and family. I have gratitude for everything. I am excited to continue learning and understanding The Secret more and more. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
