The most prominent time The Secret touched my life was the very first time I incorporated it into my thinking, and it left me astounded!

I was 17 and had recently come out of severe depression during my troubled teen years. I was yet to have had a partner due to my low self esteem and because I was quite fussy, and had resigned myself to being single till I was 30 with 20 cats!

One day my mum passed me a book called The Secret and at first my pessimistic mindset rejected the ideas in the book. I still thought I was a victim of whatever life tried to throw at me rather than being able to shape my life with my thoughts.

However after about a month I re-read the book, and one part of it stuck with me: writing down what I wanted in my life, almost like an order form to the Universe.

So, I decided I was going to attract the guy of my dreams, who had all the qualities I was looking for in a man. Being a perfectionist, I literally shaped the page out as an order form as if I was filling it in for a company on what stock I wanted. I titled it “Universal Order”. My Order was a boyfriend and in Special Requirements I listed absolutely everything I wanted in a partner. I wrote an agreement on it along the lines of “By signing this, I agree to the terms and conditions; that I must give my 100% faith to the Universe and know that my delivery is on its way”. I then signed it. I even tried to throw a little curve ball in there to the Universe by deciding to put an exact date on it as to when I wanted my delivery by: my birthday 1st October.

After I had filled out my order, I read over it and let myself feel as if I already had what that piece of paper was describing and I then folded it up, placed it in an envelope and hid it under my bed. A few days later I had completely forgot about what I had just written, as you would when placing an actual order at a store. You have filled out what you want, paid in advanced (in this case rather than money it was gratitude for what was coming), so you don’t have to think about it any further because you know that your delivery is coming to you.

A little over a month later I was introduced to a guy online through a mutual friend. I thought nothing of it nor made any connection between my order and this event, and we chatted as friends for quite some time. After a while I realized I had developed feelings for him, he was everything I wanted in a guy, and to my surprise he also felt the same about me. He asked me out, and while I accepted, at this point we had still not met in person, it was solely an online romance. We decided then that we should meet in person to make it official and start dating. Being teenagers living two hours away from each other made it hard to organise a time and place to see one another. Every plan we made to meet fell through because of work or previous plans.

Eventually, he decided on his first day off that he was going to catch a bus to where I lived, even if it was to only see me for a few hours. So we finally met and started officially dating. Even though I was amazed at how wonderful he was, I was still yet to make the connection to my use of The Secret, I had still forgotten all about it!

About 6 months into our relationship, I was cleaning my room and came across an envelope under my bed. I obliviously opened it to see what it was, and lo-behold it was my Universal Order. And boy was I floored.

I re-read my order with my hand clapped over my mouth, realising my boyfriend was literally EVERYTHING I had listed on my form. And the curve ball I had tried to throw to the Universe about a specific date? Well, it had caught it and thrown it right back. We had decided we ought to meet to make things official in August, however every plan we made over the next 2 months had fallen through. The first free day we both had when my partner caught a bus down to my house to finally meet me in person?

My birthday, the 1st October.

To this day I am still gobsmacked at what The Secret has brought me. I am now 23 and still with this fantastic guy that the Universe helped me attract. My boyfriend finds it quite amusing that he was an “order”, but whenever I feel doubt about positive thinking, I look at my partner and smile, and remember the power of The Secret.

When you ask the Universe for something, visualize it, whether it be an order form or pictures or solely mental repetition. Feel as if you have it, but then don’t fret over it or worry about it. Place your order, pay your gratitude up front, and the Universe will deliver. Even right down to the date!
