One Week Marriage.
Submitted by: Benita
South AfricaI am a professional gratitude giver.
My husband and I were married three years ago. At the time, we did not have enough money to sign an Antenuptial contract (ANC). Since I am self employed, an ANC protects the other partner. Fast forward to the present day. I had reminded my husband that we were not legally married and while we were married in God’s eyes, I still wanted more.
So, I decided to start the process a week before our third anniversary. I cold called a Notary Public and his fee was way more than we could afford. I found an online service but again, it was out of our budget. A small voice in my head kept calling out a family friend’s name. I was ashamed to call her out of need after last seeing her 10 years ago. I called her still, because I reminded myself that my shame should not be standing in the way of her delight to help me. Well, let me tell you how effortless everything happened!
1. She was happy to hear from me.
2. She drafted an amazing ANC for us.
3. Because we don’t live in the same province, she couldn’t notarise our ANC. She did her best to hook me up with an affiliate law firm, but they were going to charge us.
4. I was on the phone with my husband, to tell him that we would have to go with the online Notary Public when suddenly, and I do mean that literally, I remembered that one of my freelance clients was a massive law firm here in Johannesburg.
5. I called my line manager there. She said it was a free service they offer.
6. Went to Church on Sunday and met with our pastor who said he could marry us on our anniversary date. No charge. He even offered to host our families.
7. On Monday morning, got a call from my line manager to say the Notary she spoke to wants to bill us four times the amount. I did not panic. I sent love to the Notary and in my mind I thanked her for her work and let her go. Thereafter I thanked God for the next Notary who would process our ANC without charge. In less than three minutes, my line manager called back to say she found someone.
8. We went through and the Notary was absolutely perfect and welcoming to us.
9. We got married on our anniversary date.
10. The whole process was effortless and my heart’s desire was fulfilled.
My advice: everything that happens to you happens for your good. Learn to be thankful even when you are unsure. Learn to be still. At every hurdle during this process I saw miracles. A contract that would have set us back a few thousand rand, was given to us for free. For free! Not only that, it was the most enjoyable process.
