This is my second story here. I was working as a Senior System Administrator for a company in the Sultanate of Oman since 2015. The job was not soulful after a change in the managers. I desperately decided to change my job on the 20th of September 2020 because of the attitude of my manager. I started applying to all the job sites and LinkedIn and I was open to working anywhere in the Gulf region.

The challenge here was a COVID travel restriction and the drastic fall in the job market. No employee was willing to resign and no employer was ready to recruit in this uncertain time. I started getting calls from Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but the salary that they offered was not big enough to meet my family commitments and survive in those expensive countries.

Switching over within Oman has another challenge of NOC (no-objection certificates) from my present employer. In January the government here lifted the NOC restriction on some conditions. However, I was busy applying for jobs in all possible ways. I got several interview calls but all of them stopped at salary negations. I had no clue about how much to negotiate and I lost two good offers.

The days went on. Then on the first of July 2021, I went to a telecom operator showroom with my friend. I found lots of new phones they kept for doing demos. I went to a new iPhone 12 and I opened the Notes application and wrote in it what I really wanted. I wrote, “Dear Universe, I want a job that pays me OMR XXXX.” And then I left the phone and the place.

On the 28th of July, I got a call from a consultancy in Dubai with a job offer in Oman itself. I was happy and started submitting my CV’s and the interview went pretty well. I received an offer with the expected salary but without the car on the first of September 2021. I send my acknowledgment and resigned from the company I was working for on the 5th of September.

Then rather unexpectedly, the company that had offered me the job never responded to any of my emails. Meanwhile, I had already resigned from the present job! However, somehow I still had trust in the Universe and I managed to stay at peace.

On the 15th of September, a friend called and informed me that there was an opening for a manager level post in his friend’s company. I said that I was interested and started working on it! After lots of interview rounds, I finally got my offer with the expected salary and the car! The thrill was that I got this offer exactly on the 20th of September 2021!

Last week I went to the telecom operator store and found my Notes in the same iPhone I had picked up earlier and I wrote down my gratitude writing, “Thank you, Universe, I got my job that pays OMR XXXX on 20/09/2021!”
