Never Say Never.

Nevada, USAI am 68 years old, retired with 5 kids and 5 grandkids. I moved to Las Vegas, from Orange County, California.
Let me tell you a little bit about me. I just retired from being a realtor and moved to Las Vegas this year. I have 5 beautiful kids and 5 ‘the love of my life’ grandkids. My story is really an awakening of “Never say never”.
When my retirement started I went on as many trips that I could possibly take, even when Covid started. The fares were so cheap that I went and traveled. But, on my bucket lists, I kept saying that Mexico was on the bottom of my lists, or maybe not even on my bucket lists at all. I don’t know, I just had no real interest in the country or the people or its culture.
One of my best friends asked me just last March if we wanted to go to Cancun, and of course we said yes, being that Cancun is so popular. But for me, I really just went for the travel with not a lot of excitement because it was Mexico. I thought if it got canceled I would be OK with that.
So, last week, we board the plane to head to Cancun, Mexico. There were 4 of us girlfriends. All seniors but fun seniors. The flight going there went smoothly, the ride to the hotel went fine. We arrived to the hotel, Garza Blanca Hotel, a 5 Diamond Hotel. It had a very elaborate, well decorated, and very classy decor, and we were all in awe! We all had our eyes wide open and mouths wide open too, lol!
We checked in but with a little bit of hardship because we only spoke a little bit of Spanish but we managed to get everything settled. We had our very own butler for our 9 days stay, and he took us to our room. And as he opens the door, again, we were all thinking, are we dreaming? This is what we see in the movies, these kinds of rooms.
We had two bedrooms, 3 bathrooms with bidets, two oval bathtubs, a full kitchen, living rooms, TVs in all rooms, and everything was push-button. We each had a patio/deck over looking the swimming pools and jacuzzis. On top of that, there was the ocean!!! It was right there!! Anyways, in other words, the hotel was top of the line. Extreme luxury! Which is my taste. So, I was in love already. Our butler, well, I’ve never had one in any of my stays in other hotels, so that was a plus.
My experience with our vacation really changed my thinking about Mexico. We went on several excursions, shopping, and to restaurants. And all I can say is that I was very about the way I had been thinking of not liking Mexico. The people, even though they were having a hard time communicating, as of course so were we, they were all nice, very helpful, and understanding. I just realized that they are also people just like us.
As I am writing this right now, I am getting emotional and I just want to say, be grateful for everyone and everything you encounter each and every day in your life. I kept saying that Mexico was not on my bucket lists of places to travel, but look, it’s the first stamp on my passport!!! I am happy and grateful that I visited this wonderful part of Mexico and cannot wait to go back and see other regions of Mexico.
Viva Mexico mx
