You Never Know When The Secret Will Cross Your Path.

Riverside, CaI am a 55 year old, single woman. Never been married. No kids. My love is my job and my craft room! I have the best job and boss in the world. My boss calls me his "Office Goddess" but I am really his Office Manager. Let's just say I run the accounting show for a rebar fabricator in Colton, Ca.
My journey with The Secret began at my job. In 2004 it had been raining hard for days. There had been road construction on our street for days. Temporary steel plates were placed as you came over the Santa Ana River bridge. On my way to work there was so much rain on the road and I noticed there weren’t any construction signs warning of the steel plates ahead. And they had a smooth surface instead of the diamond surface plates. As I passed them I said out loud how dangerous it was and 45 minutes later while sitting in my office about 1/8 of a mile from the bridge we heard a loud noise that shook our building. We looked out the window and a CHP car that just happened to be there went racing towards the bridge. As we reached the side door we saw a number of our guys running to help. All we could see was a fuel truck that clearly crossed the highway and was now sitting in a open lot. And then we saw what was once a compact car. It was almost flat. The truck ran it over. EMT’s arrived quickly followed by the fire department. Our guys were slowly backing away and coming back to the yard. Grown men with tears streaming down their faces and shaking their heads in disbelief for what they just saw. The guy with the business next door came over saying he had taken pictures to show that there were no warning signs. He had complained for days. We tried reaching out to the hospital to see how she was. No one would tell us a thing. For some reason the girl in this accident touched all our lives. Now trust me, the story does get better, bare with me.
Move forward to 2006. Time went by and we had never found out who she was. Then one day one of the guys who worked in the office came in and said his girlfriend saw a friend of hers she hadn’t seen in almost a year. The friend told her she had been in accident on her way to work. It was raining and she hit some steel plates and lost control of her car as it crossed the highway aiming head on with a semi truck. That was all she remembered. She had been in a legal battle trying to find a way to hold the construction company responsible because there was no warning of the steel plates. But they said she was lying, they were in plain view.
That reminded my co worker’s girlfriend of the story he told her about the car accident in front of his work. She said we tried to reach out to her but someone was always in the way. She said you have to come to see them. It would mean a lot. Well the next morning we all waited. The guy from next door brought a box of pictures for her case. She walked in and there wasn’t a dry eye to be found! We couldn’t believe this tiny little thing of a girl survived. The only part of the car that had not been crushed she had been pushed into somehow, in the back seat on the passenger side! She came into my office and I asked her if she was OK. She said she is missing a lot of the details but remains positive.
She said that she had made a “vision board” with all of her favorite things and places she wanted to go. I had no clue what a vision board was. She said it came from a video she watched called The Secret. And, she opened her purse and pulled it out! She said for some reason she grabbed it on the way out the door and didn’t even realize it. I told her I wanted to buy a house but didn’t think I could afford it. All she said was just watch it. We hugged and she walked back out of our lives.
Over the next couple of days I can’t tell you how many times I watched it. Then one day my boss said he was giving out raises. I had a little speech all planned. I wanted to be put on salary so I would know how much I would bring home every week to see if I could afford a house. I told him I wanted to speak to him before my raise was decided. But the next day he handed me the list of everyone’s raise amounts. He had forgotten that I wanted to talk to him. The raise was very generous and I couldn’t tell him I was unhappy. My co worker Angel came in and asked how my speech went and I explained what happened. He tried to get me to talk to him, but I just couldn’t. I went home and watched The Secret DVD again. I had made a vision board. I went through every magazine cutting out pictures of my favorite style of homes, The Craftsmen Bungalow” and put up key words like peace, happy home, comfortable and love. And then I cut out a huge dollar sign weathervane and put it in the center at the top. And I said out loud “I will accept money for my home from any direction.
The next morning my boss came into my office and closed the door. Oh dear, was I in trouble? He came right out and said “You aren’t happy with your raise?” I said yes and I started to give my speech but he stopped me. He said he had made a decision. I am going to give you the down payment for a home. $60,000.00. And I am changing your raise to $30.00 per hour. I was making $18.50. I was speechless!! I started crying and he came over and hugged me and said “It is the least I can do. Now go find a house.”
That was June 20th 2007. I closed escrow July 27th 2007. I now live in a 1924 Craftsmen Bungalow in the historic district of downtown Riverside. I believe I am a “Money Magnet”. I remodeled the bathroom to fit a 1924 house. Then I remodeled the kitchen. And last year I completed everything when I had the outside of my house painted. I paid cash for everything. I put out into the universe that I am a “Money Magnet” and my savings grew. Now that my remodeling is done and I am putting extra money toward the principal and it will be paid off when I retire.
So there is my story. I know it was long and started off rough, but oh what a finish! Onward and upward peeps!
