My Sailor Story.
Submitted by: Gidico marine
NigeriaI'm Gidico, 25 years of age, a young sailor from Nigeria.
Growing up as a kid I had always wanted to be a sailor and work on a ship but I did not know how to go about it. However, I had been visualizing and fantasizing unconsciously about being at sea for a long time. I finished college and decided to enrol in a Maritime school so I could get the necessary training required to be sailor. I started in 2014 and finished in 2016 and then I was done with the program. But I still had no idea how I was going to go after getting a sailing career.
I had applied to two companies and I did not receive any positive answers, probably because I was now focusing my thoughts on, “What if I don’t get called for a job?” I stayed home for a good four years without going on a ship. The year 2019 was the year I bumped into a great book called The Secret. I read it from end to the end and from that moment on, everything about my life changed. My mentality, my belief, and mindset changed.
Getting a job in a shipping company in my country is one of the hardest things to do. Many of my friends had already given up because they tried to do it and did not succeed. Thank God for the day I found the book of magic called The Secret. I now knew what to do. I started thinking positive thoughts and visualizing every single day, as if I was on the sea already. I bought clothes that I would be using for my sailor career. I downloaded movies and documentaries about sea life. I changed my nick name from just “GIDICO” to “GIDICO MARINE”. I filled my phone with hundreds of photos of the sea, ships, and sailing. In my mind I was already a sailor.
To cut a long story short, in 2020 I bumped into a friend who introduced me to a shipping company and I traveled there. I took the interview and I passed it. By the 7th of July, 2020, I went on board a ship as a sailor! That was the happiest day of my life and I will never forget it! So many more happy days have followed since that day and I expect to have many, many more.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you so much and God bless you all
