My first love once again
Submitted by: Lois G
MAI'm a single grandmother raising the remaining 5 of 7 grandsons, ages 8 through 23. Long story. I wear Birkenstocks all year round. I'm a semi-crunchy Mamma, leaning towards vegetarianism, and I was into Attachment Parenting before it had a name. I'm an old hippie, although I didn't and don't get high (am I the only one?). My zodiac sign is Aquarius and I fit the profile. I'm the kind of person strangers spontaneously start telling their life story to. I'm frugal, and enjoy yard sales and bargains. I LOVE camping and Cape Cod; and I love surfing the web, I learn something new every day. I love my children, even though they don't all love each other or me a lot of the time.
Fifty years ago I was in love with a cute boy who was the son of my parents’ friends. We hung out, and we had one date when I was 13, but life goes on and we lost touch. I never forgot him, though, and often wondered what he was doing.
When I was 10 my parents had lost our home to foreclosure, and over the years I have gone by there and briefly visited with the man who bought it, just for old times’ sake. So last year, who do you think was there? My old love!!! Turns out they are long time buddies, and hang out regularly.
This year I began visiting my long lost love and his 2 brothers at their home. Well, one thing led to another, and we are now in a long-term committed relationship! We haven’t been apart in a month. I’ve stayed at his house, he went with me and the kids on our camping trip, and he’s now at my house.
Neither of us has been with anyone for 15 years, and both of us have had very few relationships. People are happy for me but shocked! Me, the man hater, with a man… and one who does not fit my usual “type”, which never worked for me anyway. He is gentle and non-judgmental, and gives me more compliments than I have had in my whole life. He has simple tastes, and we are a lot alike, both coming from Cape Cod, and loving nature and simplicity.
The other amazing thing here is he was a hard core heavy drinker and smoker, which was very bad for his health condition. The day he first came to my house was the last day he drank or had a cigarette.
I am amazed at how the Universe accomplished our finding each other after 50 years, and I will be grateful forever.
