My Disability And The Law of Attraction.
Submitted by: Matt Parsons
Rugby, UKI’m a teacher, artist, musician and author with a disability called Erbs Palsy, trying to show the world that everyone has unlimited potential.
I remember watching The Secret for the first time. My mum handed me a DVD and told me to watch it as soon as possible. “It will change your life,” she said. I took it home and put the disc into the DVD player straight away. As I clicked play, I was intrigued and excited to see why this film had affected my mum in this way.
As the film progressed, something clicked inside me and things began to make a lot of sense. When it finished, I clicked play again and watched it over and over. I watched it every day for months on end. I invested in the audiobook so I could listen in the car when I was on the way to work. I felt like it was changing my life in a positive way. One of the people in the film that I was really drawn to was Dr Joe Vitale. I loved his energy and story. I subsequently purchased some of his books too and enjoyed them deeply.
Fast forward many years later and I am now head of Design Technology at a school in the UK. I have a degree in Fine Art, but after University, I lost all inspiration for drawing and painting. I was, however, recording a lot of music and gigging whenever and wherever I could. I am a big believer in following your intuition and as Dr Joe Vitale says, it is important to use “inspired action.”
I was born with Erbs Palsy, which is severe nerve damage to the arm, and my left arm is paralyzed. My parents were told when I was born that I would never play a sport above the basic lever, I would never do any DIY projects around the house and I would never play an instrument. I am now head of Design. I use DIY and I teach it. I played cricket for my country until I was 19 and I played the drums and guitar and released several albums and EPs as a solo artist and also played in a band.
As interesting and hopefully as inspiring as that is, I found that the law of attraction and synchronicity played a big part in this. I decided to take Joe’s advice and during Covid, I decided to pick up a pencil and draw for the first time in 19 years. I was always pretty good at portraits, so I focused on drawing portraits of some of the people who inspired me. I was delighted with the outcome and I felt that I had found a lost secret about myself. I’m not sure where it came from but I had the idea to reach out to Joe and ask him if he’d like a portrait, as a thank you for inspiring me. To my surprise, he replied a few days later and said yes! I drew the portrait for him and also one of his partner and dog. As we started talking via email, I told him about living with Erbs Palsy. The next thing I knew, he invited me to be interviewed for his online TV show called Zero Limits. I was being interviewed by one of my favorite authors and by the guy from The Secret! I couldn’t quite believe this was happening. It all happened around the time I decided to write a book called ‘If I Can You Can – Law of Attraction and Synchronicity in Action’, which documents many of the amazing things that have happened to me because of the law of attraction and synchronicity.
I believe that I was meant to be born with this disability. The most wonderful things have come from it. When I analyze my life, I am truly grateful and excited to see where it will take me. The Secret allowed me to use the law of attraction and understand how I was attracting both good and bad things in my life, to then shape the world around me.
For those who are not completely convinced that the law of attraction works, then hopefully this final story will open your mind a little more.
I am a huge ‘Back to the Future’ fan. I am 40 years old and since I was 10 I dreamed of owning or making my own DeLorean Time Machine. My Erbs Palsy opened many doors for me, one of which is teaching. I love teaching Design Technology and one day I came up with the idea for me and the pupils to raise money to buy a DeLorean and convert it into a Time Machine from the movies. The headmaster liked the idea but said I would struggle to raise the money. Well, that was his belief. All I needed was the green light and I got it. I joined a Facebook group called DeLorean Time Machine Builders and posted about my idea. The very next day I had a message from a guy who was a car collector and was about to commission someone to convert his DeLorean into a Time Machine. He asked me if I would like to do it with the pupils. He would loan me the car and give me the money to do it! I could not quite believe what was happening! To cut a long story short, the car is almost finished and it has been a dream come true for both me and the pupils. It has also opened up many more opportunities for us. The crazy thing is, I didn’t just attract one DeLorean. Halfway through the project, my dad and I noticed a project for sale at a crazy price. Normally the cars get snapped up in a matter of hours, but this advert was almost a week old. I contacted them and it was still available, so we decided to buy it. We imported it from America, from the company we wanted to buy from at the price we wanted. Over a year later, I have still not seen a DeLorean for sale anywhere near that price.
The law of attraction is real. Step in the flow and it will help you manifest all of the things you can possibly dream of. I am living proof that despite adversity, you can do anything if you get in the flow.
