I will start by saying I am grateful to Rhonda Byrne, and all those who have shared their stories in the website.

I came across the book The Secret by strange coincidence while going through my sister’s bookshelves. I had just come back to America from Nairobi in October, for a week long visit. Within the week I had read the book about twice and decided I would use it back in Nairobi.

To cut a long story short, when I went back to Kenya the book was my second bible. I was running for a parliamentary seat, and I was running out of campaign funds. I would talk to the universe and express my gratitude. Afterwards, multitudes of supporters would volunteer to campaign for free. People in my constituency would actually tell me they are not interested in me giving them any money.

However, as everybody knows our elections were a fraud… I was the only female candidate competing among 15 men, one of them a known drug dealer who bought or bribed voters with the electoral commission officials and of course was declared the winner.

I thanked God and the Universe for making it possible for me to through the whole exercise, however fraudulent, for I became the first woman to have vied for a parliamentary seat in that constituency.

This year after the elections, Kenya changed and violence broke out, Nairobi was a no go zone, and me my husband and two children were stuck in the house with no food. But somehow by the end of the day some neighbour would bring us food. That was the universe and GOD at work.

Now I needed to travel back to the USA, but had no money and neither did I know how I would get to the airport. I prayed and thanked god for the tickets and safe travel to the airport, and on 19 of January my younger sister called to tell me she had put money in my account so I could travel. Immediately I called my travel agent and they said they are only open for a few hours in the morning – “So could you come very early tomorrow.” I was the first customer they got, and they gave me a good deal on the ticket. As soon as we got back from the city to the house we saw on TV that fighting erupted within 30 minutes of leaving the city centre.
