Motivation Drives Action

Alexandria, EgyptSecond semester Computer Engineering student.
My story starts with my high school senior year. Up to this point I was an average teenager with no clear future or goals. It was about the start of the second semester when I watched Oprah’s review of The Secret. It completely inspired me (even before reading the book). Like most people at first, it was too good to be true. It was hard to believe. But the thing that rang most in my head was: what if it IS true!! What if it DOES work!! I was not willing to let this chance go away, so I decided to put it to the test. But I was confused. I had no plan, no dreams. In other words, nothing to try it on.
In the following days, the idea was still in my mind as I went on with my day to day activities. I realized I had a great interest in Mathematics, Technology, and Computers, and with the idea of accomplishing goals in my mind, it seemed perfect to set it as a goal. I decided in the next few months, I’d work my way to getting accepted in one of the top schools of engineering in my country. And thus my motivation began to rise. I noticed that the more I thought about it, the better I felt!!
I started searching online for opinions about the law of attraction, until I reached this awesome website with true stories that cannot seem to be anything but a proof. That raised my confidence. It seemed to be happening naturally. I started typing: “Eslam Hefnawy: Computer Engineer” everywhere. I printed the picture of the school and hung it on the mirror. I did a lot of the actions I later found in the book, and I did it naturally. I was fantasizing about my first day, and it all was smooth.
It seemed too naive to think that it’ll just get attracted without any action plan, so I cared to recognize the things I had to do to attain that goal, which in that case was getting a high score in the SAT exam, and a decent school mark. School was an easy part, but the SAT however was something I had to set as sub goal, since I tried it before and it wasn’t an easy one. I was determined to get a 95% mark in that exam (that was quite enough to get me into the school), so I started to focus on the mathematical part of the exam, which was my favorite part. No surprise, the passion and feelings I had while working on it.
After a month, the exam was due and I was confident I did my best. After about 5 hours of examination I came out pretty confident, and days went by and I was still fantasizing about the day I get accepted. After quite some time, it was time to check my result my SAT percentage mark was 90%!! I was surprised, happy, and confused (after all I asked for 95%), but after a few minutes, I found that I got 85% in the linguistic part of the exam, and EXACTLY 95% in the mathematics part of the exam, which averages to 90%. That explained a lot, after all I was focusing my mind on the mathematical part, and therefore that’s what I manifested. Of course I had my doubt that by this mark I might not get accepted, but I just kept on believing.
As time passed, it was time to fill the application for the schools submission. This was an exciting moment for me and what was even more exciting was waiting for the result. After a few days, I got the result I was NOT accepted in that school!! I got accepted in another school of engineering that wasn’t even close to what I really wanted. It was a shock for me! I thought, “It didn’t work, it actually didn’t work!” And that was a day of frustration. But exactly one day later, I found that I could submit another application that would help me get into a school closer to my home town, which in that case ironically was my desired school. This moment was confusing I was in the middle of the stick, but it seemed nice to hang on to hope once again, so I filled the application and waited for the acceptance letter.
Then one morning when the postman rang our door bell, as I opened the door and received the letter, my body was filled with excitement. I took a deep breath as I open the letter and read the contents, until I reached the part saying: “We would be pleased to have you as a student.” THIS WAS THE MOMENT!! Happiness filled my body. I actually jumped out of excitement and happiness. My dream finally came true! This was the moment I’d been waiting for, and it wasn’t easy to get. I passed all the stages of goal accomplishments I later found when I read The Secret!
It seemed to be thats how it always works for everyone, and achieving that goal alone put my belief in the laws of the universe into a higher degree than I ever thought possible. And what got it stuck even deeper into my soul was that it happened completely naturally. Motivation alone was driving my actions, and that’s how I came to understand how the law of attraction really works. It is no magic, but it has the effects of magic!
Thank you Rhonda and all the people who contributed into the making of this great publishing.
