This story happened 4 years ago, while I was still studying at the University. I didn’t know about The Secret back then, however looking back I can safely claim that I used it’s rules to my advantage.

In 2018 I was in an abusive relationship with a person who isolated me from my family almost completely and forced me to move to Poland. To hide my loneliness they gifted me a bunny for my 22nd birthday.

It was love at first sight. I had never known that I can find my soulmate in an animal. Her name was Rajka, she was my best friend. I would breathe for her if it was possible. I have never thought that rabbits can be so human-like, with different emotions and personalities. She was sweet and happy but also rebellious and a bit vengeful which was refreshing.

After the breakup with my ex a few months later, I wasn’t able to keep Rajka. I was forced to move back to Slovakia with my family. Rajka was with me for a few days, however my mum was strictly against the idea of a rabbit living in my room. I was also moving to Belgium for an internship and could not take her with me. Mum convinced me that the best idea would be to give her to my ex, who promised to take care of Rajka. For the record, she didn’t know my ex was abusive, nor about our lesbian relationship. I had to keep it a secret since I was deeply in the closet. If she knew, she would definitely not force me to get rid of Rajka.

I was depressed and easily manipulated. I didn’t see any way out so I gave in. I should have fought, but was weak after the abuse. Later I promised myself that I would never let anyone pressure me into a decision that my heart doesn’t want to make.

My ex took the rabbit and promised to give it back to me once I returned from my internship. It was a lie. They gave her away and said they hated her because I loved “a stupid bunny” more than them. She even took bloody pictures and claimed to have killed Rajka out of hate. I sometimes cry myself to sleep for this bad decision until 4 years later. I don’t believe she killed her, probably just gave her to one of her lovers, but I saw Rajka again.

My new boyfriend helped me to get back on my feet. In fact, maybe manifesting my boyfriend was the first ‘The Secret-like thing’ that I did. He came at the perfect time and helped me immensely with depression and confidence. After I came back from Belgium, he tried to persuade me to buy a new bunny. I refused for weeks because I was afraid he would grow to hate the rabbit or that my family would make me to get rid of it again.

My boyfriend didn’t give up and persuaded me to at least get a rabbit cage and all the supplies. He insinuated that he would go and buy the rabbit for me if I did not want to do it. His arguments were that we live in our own flat now, in a different town. My family doesn’t have to know, it will be our secret. I started to be happy with this idea again.

Imagine how big my biggest surprise was when I came for a visit to my hometown the next day after receiving the rabbit care supplies, and my mum greeted me with a smile and said, there is a surprise for you! She took me to the garden where there was not 1 but 2 baby bunnies sitting and munching on some grass.

This “surprise” came at the perfect time. We had cage, water bottles, hay, brushes and toys ready. It was a final touch, a blessing from my own mother. My bunnies are with me to this day.
