I first read The Secret in 2008 after finding it on a bookstore shelf in Shanghai, China. I tried to use it then, but somehow it didn’t work out. So, like with most things, I went on with life and forgot all about it.

I managed to get into a prestigious job after coming back to my country, but I wasn’t performing well at all. I was, at best, a sub-par employee, and I knew it. I got married and had a son, but soon got divorced. All these failures cumulated in me. I was depressed and started to drink quite heavily. I felt like a failure all the time.

Luckily, I was able to get a scholarship to pursue my graduate degree at a high-profile university in Tokyo, Japan. I tried really hard. I worked and studied like never before. I could feel my life shifting as I was entering into a mindset that was not all about failure.

Then in 2017, one year before graduating, I decided to manifest my ideal husband. Up until then, my dating life had been terrible, and I had never had a good relationship before. So, I watched The Secret movie on YouTube as the full movie was available on YouTube at the time I really needed it. After that, every single morning before I left for school, I would watch it. I also started to read more about manifesting. I listened to manifesting hypnosis tapes at night when I fell asleep. I started to feel, for the first time in my life, that I was worthy of love.

And sure, soon enough, when I was back in my country on holiday, I met my future husband through a colleague. He is everything good in a man and a human being. We got married with an actual wedding and everything, after my graduation. We moved to a rather wealthy area because my husband comes from a well-off family, so we could afford to buy the apartment with no mortgage. We had another boy the following year. I knew all this was happening because I used the Secret.

Four years later, I decided to use it again. This time, I wanted to manifest positive changes in my career. I was still working in the same institution. Although I did manage to get a promotion after graduation, I felt things were going too slow. So, every morning, while driving to work, I just said “Thank you” and really felt the emotions. I thanked the Universe for how far I had come, for the job I currently had, for the life I had built. I felt this gratitude to my bones because I remembered the times I was a single mom with unremarkable skills and a drinking problem. After making this a habit, I started to apply for jobs. I did it mechanically, almost without thinking. I really wanted to get into the most prestigious international organization that I knew of, and I applied for jobs there. This institution, however, only tends to hire people with PhDs. The chance of someone getting into it without a PhD and from so far away was 0 to minimal. But I still thanked the Universe every morning and vividly saw myself entering through the front gates of this institution. I remembered what the door looked like from a previous short visit in 2012. I did this every single morning.

On  October 20, 2023, I received an email from this institution inviting me to an interview. I read the email twice, responded, then went into the bathroom and thanked the Universe. Although it was just the first step of the selection process, I somehow knew that this job was mine.

And you know what? Just five more selection stages and seven months later, the job is mine! I am sitting in my new office in Washington, DC, USA, as I write this. I have my dream job! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

So, as is written in ‘The Alchemist’: “Everything that happens once can never happen again, but everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time.” I know The Secret will work for me again because it worked for me twice.
