I was born in Sandton City, Johannesburg, South Africa and raised in a small gold mine village called Carltonville.
Growing up there my sister and I did not have an awful lot, but my father did make sure we were always taken care of. When I got to my teenage years I made the decision in my mind that I wanted to move back to the UK and raise my own family as that was where my dad was originally from. I knew that the country had to offer a much better future than the one I had back home.
The times were extremely hard for our family as the years went on. We encountered horrific violence during apartheid, and on one occasion when I was 14, my family and I were held at gunpoint during a house robbery. I will never forget it, especially due to the fact that at that moment, I remembered praying out to God so hard and also to the Universe. I asked them to protect my entire family because it was not our time to die yet and I was still destined to have a successful life in the UK. I remember my grandfather, shortly after our traumatic ordeal in 2016, sitting me down in his house and saying to me, “Brett, I want you to watch this DVD and I really want you to pay attention to it when you do because I promise you everything positive that you want for your future will happen after watching The Secret.”
