Man of my Dreams
Submitted by: Ashley G.
Kansas City, MOI am a full-time student majoring in painting and printmaking. I'm also a full-time dreamer with much to think about.
When I was 13 I went on a sporadic road trip to Alabama with my best friend and her mom and a few others. When we got there I met Evan; handsome, tall, musically talented, ocean blue eyes, and a gentle spirit. We were shy but on the last night we stayed up late talking about everything we had in common, like our favorite movie is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. We stayed up until 7 AM and realized something special. He ended up living fifteen minutes away from me back in Missouri. As soon as we arrived back home we started dating for a few months until his mom interrupted and said we were too young to be dating. So it ended and I was heartbroken.
Over time I always kept an open mind about it, and somehow knew we’d get back together. I know it seems nuts being so young. I dated other people and so did he. We’d run into each other often and make plans to meet up and get coffee. But my hopes were crushed when I was 17 and I read that his girlfriend at the time posted they were engaged…
Feb. 23rd 2009, 18 years old, I found out my two very best friends believed in The Secret as well, we just never had the guts to say something. It was a breakthrough, we began to study, travel, and use The Secret in everything we thought and did. At the time I was in a long-distance relationship, or lack thereof, that was utterly horrifying. I knew it wouldn’t work out but couldn’t gain the strength to get out. Finally, one night, I called and just spilled my thoughts and said “One day you’ll figure the secret of life out.” It finally ended. I told my friends I wish I could just find a guy that believed in the same things as I do.
One month later, exactly, I was on facebook (don’t have one now, waste o time) and saw Evan signed on. So, I chatted to him and we started talking. I asked the first chance I got if he were still with the girl and he said no. The only bad news was he lived in Arizona with his mom.
We instantly exchanged numbers and couldn’t stop talking. We would Skype until 7 in the morning talking about beliefs and goals and The Secret. He believes, magically, everything I believe in. Two weeks after we started talking he sold his amps and guitars so he could move back to Missouri. The day after he arrived I met up with him and we fit perfectly together. Two months after we started our relationship.
It’s been a year and The Secret really unconsciously and consciously WORKS. He’s EVERYTHING Ive dreamed of. We’ll be getting married in a couple of years. We’re writing, drawing, and planning all of our goals so we meet them.
He’s my soul mate and I’m so in love with him.
