A few years back my mom passed away. Unfortunately her life insurance policy was only around $7000. I’m sure when she bought it years ago, that was a lot of money. There wasn’t enough money to pay for the funeral so after the $7000 was paid, I went on a payment plan with the funeral home. I kept thinking I need to pay this off because I felt like my mother wasn’t at peace until I did. So I did the positive thinking. Usually I would have a pit in my stomach, but for some reason I was calm, knowing that I would pay it off.
Then one night I stopped at the local convenience store and for some reason I bought a lottery scratch ticket. I came home and started scratching it. Just then the phone rang and it was my son who was overseas on deployment. So I put the ticket down and talked with him. After we hung up I remembered the ticket. I hadn’t finished scratching it. On the last number scratched I saw $10,000. I started screaming and running around. My husband had all he could do to control me. You would think I won a million dollars.
The next day I went to the lottery. After taxes I came home with $7,500 and the first check out the door was to the funeral home. That night I said to myself “Mom, rest in peace”.
