Living The Secret.
Submitted by: Rhiannon P
United KingdomI'm a 34 year old UK citizen living in New Zealand. I'm passionate about experiencing the world and all it has to offer.
I have so many stories to share that it’s hard to choose one, so I will share a few of my favorites with you and hope that you are inspired and encouraged to have complete faith in yourself and your dreams.
Throughout my life I’ve always been told how lucky I am. I never saw it like that, I simply believed I could have it if I wanted it enough and had faith. I would spend hours day dreaming over whatever it was I wanted, playing it out in detail in my mind as I went about my days.
It wasn’t until the age of 31 that my friend Natalia, who was living in Australia, had started making comments about me.
“You’re already living The Secret and you don’t even know it.”
What?
“You’re living proof that The Secret exists.”
Huh?
I had no idea what she was talking about!
The year before I was living in the UK. I had overcome skin cancer, ended a one year relationship and moved back into my own home. The relationship wasn’t awful, it just didn’t click with me and I couldn’t shake the feeling that if I had carried on with it then I was going to miss out on opportunities in life that would bring so much more joy.
One day an overwhelming thought entered my mind. “Move to New zealand!” At first I thought it was ridiculous because I knew I was passed the age limit for a working holiday visa. I had wanted to move to New Zealand from the age of 27 after living in Australia for 2 years but things always came up that prevented me from leaving. Deciding no harm could come from fantasizing about the life, I started surfing the internet. After a few hours, I stumbled upon a company that provided a 12 month working visa with an age limit if 35. Bingo!! I was hooked!
There were stages though, New Zealand immigration only provided 200 of these visas to the UK per year, and they were exclusive to this company.
I immediately started my research. I found out that they make these visas available on a certain date, with thousands of people competing for them. I made the decision that one of them was mine, there was no question about it. After many phone calls to the company, they finally confirmed that the release date would be the 5th December 2017 at 10 am.
“Lets do this!”
I bought new suitcases and started filling them with everything I would need, all new. I wanted a new start. I began telling people that I’ll be moving away, many were happy for me and many were negative.
“What makes you think you’ll get one?” “What if it doesn’t get approved?” “Yeah, right!”
I’ve always done what I said I would do so this didn’t deter me. There was no alternative, I was leaving! And I was going to be prepared!
Four months later, the day had arrived. Having booked a day off work, I sat in front of my laptop and prefilled my application to secure a visa, waiting for the clock to hit 10 am to submit. Finally the moment came but suddenly the payment option crashed and my screen froze. Thinking fast, I remembered that I had written the company number down and had it in front of me. After 3 attempts of busy lines, I got through. After explaining the situation, I was allowed to secure my place over the phone. Yes!
This was the point my friend Natalia had started making the comments I previously mentioned. I had no idea what “The Secret” was. She explained as best as she could but insisted I should look it up. That night I searched the internet and found The Secret movie.
Mi mind was blown away!!
I completely understood it all and why she was making these comments. I connected instantly and felt as if something had opened up inside of me. I had been living this life and didn’t even know it. Suddenly everything was possible. I had never felt this enlightened before. I immediately ordered The Secret book online.
Learning about the gratitude rock. I decided to put it out there that I wanted a gratitude coin and that I would know it when I saw it. Two weeks later, serving a customer at work, I opened the till, and there, sitting in the draw, was a rare brass £2 coin which was released as a commemorative coin to celebrate special occasions. It was dated 1986, my birth year!
This was the one!!
The £2 wasn’t officially released into circulation until 1998 with the coin having a nickel centre and brass outer ring so this was an extraordinary find.
September 2018 came, I left the country. After staying with Natalia for three weeks in Australia I finally made my journey to New Zealand.
Flying over New Zealand, taking in the rolling hills and mountains for the first time, I knew that I wanted to become a resident. I told myself that it’s going to be really hard, I will have to work hard, but in the end, I will do it.
My mistake!
It was indeed hard, I worked so much that I was just about surviving. So many obstacles and tough times came because that’s what I believed would happen. For some reason I had it in mind that I would only get it if I struggled for it.
In April 2020, unemployed and the world shaken with CIVID-19, I was struggling to find work and was wondering how I would find the money to pay for my next visa in August. At this point I was reading The Magic.
On April 16th I decided to download “The Magic Check” from The Secret website. Filling it out I ordered “Two Thousand and Five Hundred New Zealand Dollars” to be paid out by the 25/07/2020 and set the check as my screensaver on my phone so I could see it often.
The next day a friend called and asked if I would be interested in cleaning his sister’s country house for money, and I snapped up the opportunity. Getting paid and spending time in nature was a no brainer for me. After that they started spreading the word of how professional and through my cleaning was. Before I knew it, I was cleaning 7 different homes, and given keys, weekends away in nature, new experiences and friendships. I knew this was my check making installments.
At the end of June, still looking for a more permanent job, an old work acquaintance contacted me asking if I would take over his management position. I agreed to meet for a chat the next day. The job seemed perfect for me, closer to home, early start and finish, and most weekends to myself. Where do I sign up?
I immediately took the position, the first two weeks were fantastic and I was feeling extremely grateful. But then I started to notice that things weren’t quite as they seemed and I wasn’t feeling comfortable anymore more. My gut was telling me that I needed to get out but needing the money, I decided to carry on. Things got worse quickly, being the only female there, comments were made that the owner of the company had a problem with that. I was not being appreciated or respected and when the day came that the owner totally ignored my efforts of communication and only spoke to the male in the room, I decided to leave. I’ve never experienced anything like this before but decided I wouldn’t get angry or negative over it. I was extremely grateful because I had made enough from the job to pay for my visa, and with the cleaning job I had made more than I asked for!
On July 24th, during a phone call to Natalia, I had reminded her about my check, told her that even though I didn’t have the full $2,500 in my account due to living expenses, I still achieved my goal. We were both amazed at how the Universe once again provided me with what I wanted and in abundance too! We were both feeling extremely grateful.
On July 25th, the date The Magic Check was to be paid by, I was reading the end of Hero when and idea struck me on how to combine my love for travel and helping people, while making a living out of it. As I started to record a voice message to send to Natalia, excited to share the idea with her, I received a text from my previous employer, apologising and informing me that I would be given an extra three weeks pay!
That’s an extra $3,000! More than I requested on The Magic Check!
And on the very date the check was due to be paid!
Oh my God!! I couldn’t believe it! For simply being grateful, positive and having faith, I was rewarded. Thank you, to The Secret team for making me aware and bringing joy to my life with your knowledge.
