Twenty years ago, I went from being a new mom in my twenties living in a new house, to being a divorced single mother living in a tiny cottage on my parent’s farm. In picking up the pieces of my life, a priority was to create financial independence. My big concern was that I dropped out of college and was waitressing to pay the bills and I also had bad credit. I felt very alone and scared, but continued to think positive and work hard. My goal was to get my own credit, buy my own car, and eventually buy a house.

I repaired my own credit reports after my divorce and began my new life, self-directed and in financial control. This was not a easy task and I thought if I could have found someone to help me, I would have paid them. When I was learning about fixing my credit I would do something great for my credit, but than without knowing it, I would do something that took me back ten steps. Once I figured it all out and after many years, the Kelly Group was born. It has since gone on to become one of the most legitimate and successful credit consulting companies in the United States.

It is funny how life is. Just when you think you hit rock bottom and have to start fresh, you really have no place to go but upward. I had no other option but to build success by my mistakes. I felt if you have a big goal that you keep thinking about doing, but you want to wait for the right time, then you can miss the opportunities of today and tomorrow, so I dove right in. When I was on a train from New York to Virginia I picked up a copy of The Secret because a friend told me I would love it. I can still remember sitting on the train and thinking, “Wow I have done many of these things, but I did not realize it was a secret. I know that I learned that plus so much more, especially that if I put it in action, it can magnify. I truly feel that in 2009 when the crash hit the real estate world and that was a big part of my referral base, my company never would have survived without the teachings of The Secret.

I am grateful every day and I believe in the law of attraction. It all starts with your idea and then with the desire you have for it to be successful. No one can stop you, but you. I hope by reading my story you can gain inspiration and I can be featured in The Secret.
