Job and Money
I am very lucky in my career. I teach the most awesome courses (honors and AP classes) with the most wonderful students in the school in which I work. Almost everything always goes the way I want it in my job: I have always gotten nearly everything I have always wanted in terms of classes, curriculum, pay, colleagues, and students. I have read and watched The Secret (sometimes I read it many times a day), and have realized that my “luck” was something I brought upon myself with positive thinking and constant gratitude.
However, although I’ve had the knowledge of my connection with the universe to make things go my way at work, I’ve been struggling with finances for years, and have never saved enough money to not have to teach summer school. This year, due to budget cut-backs, I was not hired to teach summer school: something on which I’ve always depended to pay my rent, car payment, insurance, utilities, etc., during July and August.
I decided that God or the universe knew I needed a break from teaching what I’ve been teaching for years; I’d been feeling less energetic and excited about teaching the same thing for years. However, I was very worried about how I was going to pay the bills this summer, but truly kept a positive, non-worrying attitude (well, I did slip a few times, but consciously made myself believe that everything would work out).
Just a few hours ago at a party, two of my colleagues suggested that I take over a four-week summer course (covered by a grant) to help freshmen who failed English move on to 10th grade without having to pay for summer school. The class lasts less time than summer school, entails shorter hours, has been described as being “easy” to teach, AND pays as much, or more, than summer school does.
I feel much more confident about the universe sending me ways to expand my experiences (this is yet another course I can add to my resume) AND to earn more money. It’s great to finally transfer the confident belief in positive thinking from one aspect of my life to another.
