It’s Getting Better!

MassachusettsA graduate student who will really go places.
I first watched The Secret movie several years ago but didn’t give it much thought until now. I have finished reading the book version and was feeling intrigued yet skeptical about it. A few of the parts really struck a cord with me. I figured, even if this whole Law of Attraction thing is a load of bupkis, there’s nothing inherently bad about being thankful for what you already have. So I decided to practice that part of the book.
Let me tell you, this advice has done for me what years of therapy didn’t. I really could have used it back when I was an ungrateful teenager who was jealous of everybody! I started the practice of squeezing a gratitude rock every morning and thanking it for the new day. I also squeeze it every night and thank it for the good things that have happened to me that day. It has really put my life into a new perspective. The good things that would have simply passed me by after a few minutes, even if they are as small as getting a discount at the store, really stick with me and I realize that my life is actually quite good. I think of the good things as gifts and react to them that way.
In the past few weeks since I started feeling grateful, I could swear that my sense of smell and taste has gotten better, not that there was anything wrong with them in the first place. Things that tasted good before taste even better now. I have finished reading The Power and, lo and behold, that effect of gratitude happens to be mentioned in there.
Right now, I am a newly confident woman in graduate school in a wonderful romantic relationship. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
