I Still Can’t Believe It!
Hi, everyone! My story is simple but if you’re anything like me, it’ll really open your eyes. I’m an undergraduate student at the University of Central Florida, about to enter my senior year, and ever since I was a freshman, I’ve wanted to work at the campus library. I applied almost every semester, but since UCF is the second largest university in the nation, it was easy for my application to get lost among thousands of other applications. Even getting a call for an interview would’ve been a big deal.
Still, I didn’t dwell too much on it. I took 15-16 credits every semester, so I didn’t have a lot of time for a job anyways, but starting senior year I would be able to take less credits because I’d already completed most of the credits I needed to graduate. So I asked God to help me get a job at the UCF library, if it was right for me.
Enter my junior year. I found out one of my good friends was working at the library, and we got to talking about it, so she knew I was interested in working at the library as well. A couple of weeks ago, my friend texted me to ask if I was still interested. I said yes, and she asked me to come in and she’d introduce me to her supervisor.
When I went in, I had a quick chat with my friend’s supervisor. At the time, she noted my name and student ID and told me that though she could short-list my name, she couldn’t guarantee me a job. I smiled and said that was fine, because in my heart I knew the job would be mine if it was meant to be mine, so I sent in a fresh application for the summer semester, visualized myself working on the third floor at the media desk a couple of times, then put it out of my mind. I don’t know why I chose the media desk, my friend works on the main floor.
Yesterday, I got a call from a man at the library, the third floor media center, asking me if I was still interested in a position. I said yes, and went for an interview. This supervisor and I had a great conversation, talking about many different things, and at the end of the interview, he said he’d like to hire me! Out of over 50,000 students on campus, I am one of four who is getting hired at the UCF library this summer!
I go to get my paperwork done on Monday and I still can’t believe it! No matter how much I thank God, it’ll never be enough! So thank you, God, thank you, Rhonda, for letting the world know about The Secret, and thank you to my friend for remembering me!
