Gratitude Is Life Changing!
For months I have struggled with a supervisor who has made it a daily habit to antagonize, humiliate, and accuse me. It got to the point where I have started to look for a new job. As my primary thoughts about work have become increasingly saturated with dread, the situation has not surprisingly, worsened. I had actively used The Secret for years, but recently succumbed to the stress and became cynical for awhile. The other day I remembered, out of nowhere, the man in The Secret film whose work life changed dramatically when he stopped focusing on the people who had been harassing him.
So this morning on the drive to work, instead of listening to music as usual, I spent the entire drive giving thanks for all the people, things and blessings that fill my life. When I arrived at work, the usual dread was nowhere to be found. Nowhere! A couple of hours later, the unthinkable happened. This particular supervisor, who has been the source of such unpleasantness, noticed something I had made a mistake on, which normally would have resulted in a barrage of disparagement. Instead, he discretely emailed me to inform me, and to offer his assistance in correcting the error before the transaction was finalized. I was stunned. I got up and walked to his office to thank him.
Wow. If that’s what gratitude does, I’m going to make gratitude a daily habit on the way to work. I can’t wait to see how great tomorrow is! Thank you!!!
