Focus On What You Want.

New ZealandI had always seen myself as a worry wart, limiting myself with ruminating thoughts, worries, anxiety, fretting over past things, and problems with self-esteem, confidence and self-criticism. I kept being fixated on the same thought, whether it was money, a job or whatever. But last December, something happened that led to a series of circumstances that really pushed me to re-evaluate all this and follow the teachings of The Secret more to learn how to let go of such thinking.
Of late, I have been returning to The Secret. I also bought The Greatest Secret after something happened that gave me a testing and worrying time. I won’t go into it now, but I want to do so later with a follow-up entry. I was having bouts of depression, mood swings, and anxiety. I began to learn to let go of them and try to let them pass through me, but I still had intruding thoughts about it all and the negative feelings that went with them.
Anyway, I was particularly struck by the message from the story about the gay guy in The Secret, to focus on what you want, not what you don’t want. I realized that these intruding thoughts going through my head all the time were not what I wanted because they were spoiling moments where I wanted respite. What I wanted right then was to enjoy my current moment and forget about my problems. So I began to focus on what I wanted, enjoying my current moment, and I used the mantra, “Focus on what you want, not what you don’t want.”
This is a whole new thing for me as I have only just discovered it. But ever since I did, I have found I have been savoring my current moments more, finding more peaceful moments, and my mind is not dwelling so much on things. I am more capable of letting go of thoughts and negative feelings about my problems, forgetting them for a while, and releasing them to the Universe. That is something I know I need to do for the Universe to start working on them.
