Wyoming - fomerly MontanaI was born and lived my entire life in Montana, but needed to start anew. I did this at the age of forty-eight! I left Montana for Wyoming because of my husband's new job, and now embrace the new changes and challenges in my life.
My husband, the major breadwinner in our household, lost his job of twenty-seven years due to the fact that his employer closed its doors after some sixty years in the papermaking business. It was heart wrenching! Including my husband’s job loss, his co-workers lost theirs (about 450 workers in all).
My husband got going on some internet job searches, and found that there were jobs in his field, but it was clear we would have to relocate. One stipulation we both agreed on: it had to be in the Western United States.
The very first job he visited and applied for was the one he ultimately ended up with, but it was almost forgotten. During that time, I Googled real estate sites for homes in that city, and explored the city’s history, geography, economy, and general character. I spent countless hours researching and envisioning us living our lives there, but my husband didn’t hear back from them soon afterwards, and continued his job search pursuit. He travelled to four or five other interviews and some jobs looked as though they were going to offer employment.
Then one day he got a call – from a Wyoming company – and got a telephone interview, which lead to an in-person interview, then an offer of employment. I jokingly said, “Watch, you’ll be in a position where you’ll have to choose!” Sure enough, the other jobs he was inquiring about wanted him to work for them. The Wyoming job offered what was the closest match to our desires, so that is the one he accepted. We had to sell our home in Montana, which as everyone knows, in this economy, is a challenge (in addition to a community that lost 450 good-paying jobs), but I “just knew” we’d sell it quickly, and we did!
We ended up buying a lovely home in Wyoming for exactly the Montana home’s selling price! Since we’ve been here, there have been oodles of signs that we’re supposed to be here! His job is awesome, and he looks forward to going to work. We are secure and happy, and have the means to pay for our kids’ college education, and so on. I affirm: The Secret works!
